I just had to join in on the over-exaggerated use of the spoiler tag ME TOO!... err YEAH!

I think I'll edit to title to simply say SPOILERS or something. Is there anyone in this thread who's not reading the spoilers?

Yes, it would hinder your progress, but it wouldn't be fun. If the portals appeared in strategically annoying ways, like, for example, under your feet->over some fire when you step on a trigger, or portalling an orb/turret in your way, then the player:

a) won't be able to exploit it like they might be able to exploit the portals if they were being fired randomly from the cube itself

b) won't be trapped or prevented from completing the level altogether

c) will think that Mr JerkBox knows what it's doing. "Ooh you little... :x "

Bear in mind that the player doesn't have a portal gun right away, so all the portals in the game to begin with will be placed by either Cuby McBother or GLaDOS

or, create a CCC thread for spoilers and a CCC thread for non spoiler material

You need to be able to hear the portal sound and then directly afterwards a snigger comming from said hinderance cube
just so its absolutely clear what has happend, otherwise the slower player may not understand

I've put WIP in the title so it gets moved to the WIP forum. And if I have further questions about Hammer etc regarding this mod, I'll create a new thread here and be as spoiler free as possible. However, even with this thread, I'm only going to release spoilers if they're neccessary (eg. if I want feedback on them)

And as for ensuring that the player knows that Lord Arsebox has placed a portal, that's a good idea! I was simply going to make GLaDOS say something like "Be advised that any portals placed by the <boxy's name here> are unauthorised, and should be ignored" and make it abundantly clear which portals are placed by the box because something bad ALWAYS happens when they are placed.

perhaps have any portals made by the bad box red? I don't mean like a third portal, but replace a blue or orange one with a red one, just make it extra clear its not suposed to be there

I think that's going a bit too far to be honest.

If it gets to the point where a player needs the portal to be a different colour for them to realise it's made by Jerk-in-a-box, then I'll either not include that part of the puzzle at all, or make it so all non-player-placed portals are made by him, so there's no confusion.
In my head it's nowhere near as confusing as I'm probably making it sound, but we'll see when it gets tested.
