Well, it took quite a while before it was fixed after dlc #1 and for dlc #2 there is currently a special request, so I wouldn't be surprised if hardy any effort is put in there.

EDIT: and basically valve games are also very popular due to the fact they can be modded. (on pc only)
Take a look at this website: hundreds of different maps, active community. Same for Half-Life 1/2/episodes, counter strike, l4d(2) and tf2... I think no pc for valve will be a very bad strategy.

Why are you people jumping to the conclusion that IF (and this is still a huge, unsubstantiated IF) Valve were to develop console hardware, that they would for some inexplicable reason abandon ship on PC development?

Pull your heads out of your asses and try to use some logic here.

I'm sure that Valve just wants to jump on the console wagon. Generally I think that their console will not compare at all to their pc games - perhaps it may actually open up custom user-made content to the console. Who knows.

As far as the rumor goes the console is actually standard PC with probably some console OS which the user can upgrade any component anytime to his will. It's just a PC with some peripherals(bio metrics, wearable computing) attached, like xbox has kinect, ps3 has move. So Valve abandoning the PC sector never comes into question.

See, that's what I thought too for a long time...

...and then Rage came out. If there was any company in the WORLD that I thought was immune to consolization, it was iD. They've only made the best PC games that all good shooters still base their engines on...

...and Rage was a giant piece of ported console shit on PC.

I don't trust any company to stay a PC developer anymore. Everyone wants to make money and the money is in consoles.

I still have a little faith that Valve will not steer us wrong, but still... even after seeing CS:GO, that game is pretty consolized too. I might just be bitter but I fucking hate the direction PC gaming is taking. It makes me sad that no developers even care about their PC builds anymore...

I know I'm kind of getting far from the subject matter at this point, but I just had to rant because it's such a tough time to be a PC gamer that expects quality games. I guess my conclusion is I would'nt be surprised if Valve abandoned the PC ship like iD did and started shipping some neutered console games from now on.

id, like Epic, has long since been a tech company first and a game company second. Moreover, the megatexture tech that ultimately caused the biggest complaint in terms of visuals (for both PC and console platforms alike) essentially came down to driver issues. Go listen to John Carmack's keynote from Quakecon 2011. He spends a great deal of time talking about the tech and about Rage's performance issues. The short of it is that their goal was to maintain 60fps at the cost of texture quality when loading new materials. Personally I don't think the megatexture concept really works; I don't know what problem it's supposed to solve but whatever that problem is, it only creates more.

But, no. Don't blame "consolization" on Rage being a flop. Blame video card manufacturers for not updating their drivers fast enough, and blame id and/or Carmack for the failed tech, or rather for having their priorities for the tech in the wrong place.

This is of course ignoring the bigger issue, which is that Rage simply wasn't that fun or great of a game in the first place. The engine is the easy scapegoat.

Yea, I wasn't even necessarily talking about the megatexture tech, which actually ran superbly well on my beefy ass computer.
It's more the menu systems and general game design that were problematic... radials to select weapons (obviously designed for thumbsticks), no video options whatsoever on release (which they then patched 2 months later, but the control you have over it is still pretty shitty), linear and horizontal level design that's really boring and designed to be really easy and straightforward... even the car controls were obviously far superior with thumbsticks.
I played that game on Hard and I think I died like 3 times? Plus it's impossible to die for real because you get the free easy-mode defib shit, and regenerating health...
Ugh... can you tell I'm bitter? haha... just makes me lose faith in developers when shit like that happens.

Fortunately I played the fixed version. I think the video options were suffiecient. Moreover, I haven't seen a game that would allow me to run it on a particular monitor, in the game itself!
