Report: Valve Developing Steam Box Console

PreviousPage 3 of 5Next

I doubt it, valve have always been PC lovers. They create games because they want to entertain people, money isn't their focus which is the matter in the cod franchise.

Actually, I think the reason why Call of Duty is dead is because of the lack of people with imagination that work on the series. I don't think making games available on consoles has anything to do with it.

Crazy is as crazy does.

The reason Call of Duty is "dead" is because they found a formula which makes them tons of cash, and like it or not, game development is a business. It's like saying cinema is dead because big budget popcorn flicks like Transformers make a lot of money at the box office.

Nobody is forcing anyone to consume mass media like Modern Warfare or Transformers. Play independent games that focus on gameplay mechanics you like. Watch independent films that tell stories you want to see.

Right. Very right. Hopefully the people that left Infinity Ward and made Respawn will make a better game.

Since we are talking about wearable computing take a look at this.

No, it isn't the availability of games on console, it's when the console version becomes the primary version and the PC version a port that does it.

And I think saying the old IW suffer from lack of imagination is a bit ignorant TBH considering they pretty much pioneered modern FPS.

2 things: Firstly, this Valve console has been confirmed to be myth.

Secondly, in a post previouslly (and I would quote, but have no idea how), someone said "before the rapture". Assuming you mean 21/12/2012 (or 12/21/2012 for non-UK), the theory is dead. The Mayans created this doomsday and they came before the Roman Empire. During the Roman Empire Julius Caesar created leap years. This means that, added up, the days put us 7 months backwards. Meaning that in actual fact, for the Mayans, it's already been 21/12/2012, so their prophecy is bust. Just thought I'd tell you all, we're completely safe.

Thank god Valve aren't releasing a console. It'd probably lose them too much money because of all the cheapo xbox 720's that'd sell.

If Call of Duty is "dead", why does it continue to shatter it's own game sales records, and every other record in existence? It sells more than 5x the amount that any other game considered a "massive success" would...

Call of Duty won't die until someone else releases a shooter that runs at 60 FPS and has very tight, crisp gameplay mechanics. They haven't improved on the concept because everyone else is still playing catch-up. Any other "modern combat" shooter out there just copies the surface stuff (objective markers, perks, xp and leveling systems) and fails to notice that people keep coming back because it FEELS and PLAYS better than any other console FPS out there.

Of course this is fucking silly to us PC users, because we've had better shooters, that control better for literally decades... but the only competition CoD has gameplay-wise is Halo, which at the end of the day stil feels clunkier because they only run at 30 frames...

CoD4 and CoD2 make it in to the top 5 most played games on XFire pretty much every day. I don't think MW3 even made it in on release day, lol. And places like ESL, CG, CB still have active CoD4 and CoD2 ladders but I don't hear much about competitive MW3, lol. IMO the series is dead.

Each new game they release just caters more and more to new players and focuses more heavily on the console version and dulling down the PC version. MW3 doesn't even have a command console. o.O

This is the kind of direction I fear Valve's games would take if they were to start developing games primarily for this console with PC as an afterthought. Hopefully they aren't actually planning on releasing it. xD

Just press the "Quote"-button on the top-right of someone's post. Or use the "Quote"-button at the top of your text bar.

That someone would be me. And thank goodness! I had no idea! I... Oh, wait... I'm not really that gullable. Few people really are, except for the media.

I don't actually believe in the Rapture, which co?ncidentally has nothing to do with Mayan culture or religion. Fun fact, that callendar isn't, and has never been, a doomsday device, merely one of their cyclic callendars. Which I don't cater to either.

My comment was, how can I best describe it, a joke. Hehe.

My best guess is that they would probably wait for how well any console would sell before planning too much games on it. And I think the Sixsense Hydra is a great example for this. I mean, how much resources are really being put into that anymore? One test mappack and they were pretty much done with it. I think.
