I'd definitely make Blockout instead of Teris! Indeed, I don't think it should be so difficult. The blocks could be func_door_rotatings for example; you can make the faces ("lines") disappear with triggers at the bottom/deepest part... The annoyance would come when making the rest of blocks go deeper/lower... hmmmm... maybe using func_physboxes instead (to use their physics)...

I think it's funny to experiment with the engine making whatever... it doesn't have to be into Portal2, but the truth is that I don't share your opinion that Portal2 is not friendly to do different stuff... I think right the opossite!
