Quote from grayarea on October 9, 2012, 1:17 pmAh, so that's the trick for the 12 catcher! It's very cool, but I have to say that even if I had thought of it, I would have dismissed it as far too outlandish. It's a shame that there were always simpler alternatives that meant we were not forced to find it. I tried it out myself just now and I found a slightly simpler alternative that does not use the cube for redirection onto 12. I'll send you the demo.
I also used a slightly different arrangement to pass the cube onto the 32 button which flings it into the player's hands.
Anyway, once again: great map and thanks so much for taking the time to make it.

more like a small and sadistic map
Quote from HeadShot on October 9, 2012, 2:18 pmWow Xtreger! I really thought that the trick was going to be some nonsense, but I have to say I like it very much. It probably requires a few quicksaves to get right, but more importantly, the physics make sense and its fresh.
The complexity of the map made lots of other solutions and made finding that trick nearly impossible, but I suppose thats a good thing
Solid map!

Quote from Xtreger on October 9, 2012, 2:31 pm@grayarea, HeadShot: Thanks... I agree completely that there were lots of other possibilities that preceded the intended trick. I tried my best to force it into being the only way but that turned out to be extremely hard
@Sphyrch: I'll take that as a compliment?

Quote from grayarea on October 10, 2012, 1:53 pmJust before I fade into Trifurcated retirement, here is my version of what I would call the crux movement of this map. I only found this after seeing Xtreger's solution. From the videos it might not be clear how this is different but it's actually a lot simpler. I'm not using the cube when activating the 12 catcher, it just gets moved out of the way so the laser can pass freely through the portals. This allows you to precisely pre-aim the portals as you see in the vid. In Xtreger's solution, the cube is used to point at a rightward angle through the wall portal to activate 12. A much more elaborate, outlandish and tricky move.
Cheers all.
8ki3HJHLXlU
Xtreger, sincerely, I'm completely amazed for that compendium of maneuvers and freshy tricky steps you managed to include in this map. I feel admiration for such twisted puzzle creaton!
There you have my 5/5 points rate

Quote from Xtreger on October 11, 2012, 1:25 pm@grayarea: Hats off... you still found an alternative! My apologies as I was not able to view your demo, being busy for upcoming viva's. Far less of a hassle to have seen the vid. Anyway I'll include this alternative on the workshop page for this map, when I upload it.
@josepezdj: Thank you. But no papers were involved, only some in-game experimentation...
