Portal 2 level design guidelines

Most people don't necessarily count panels as a test element, but I do; it's very easy to make an entire puzzle out of panels and flings.

Okay, I want to start a discussion on the possible uses of panels. I love panels...
1. hidden doorway
2. hidden bridge
3. collapsing thing
4. destroyed chamber awakening
5. destroyed chamber twitching while still 'dead'
6. portalable surface deployment
7. portalable surface retraction
8. portalable surface movement
9. block player from going somewhere
10. smashing stuff (crushers)
11. moving floor
12. moving cieling
13. adjusting room size
15. getting off topic
16. you didn't notice I skipped 14
17. you are going back to check
18. you realize what I did thar
19. back on topic: revieling test elements
20. general eye candy
21. moving test elements
22. blocking an object in an excursion funnel
23. blocking lasers
24. blocking exursion funnels
25. blocking lightbridges
26. blocking flying cubes/turrets/players
27.doing that to players
28. making a ramp so an object/player doesnt fall into something
29. retracting a ramp so an object/player does fall into something
30. inspiring other forum members to post their own ideas!I'm not all that creative when it comes to making up my own ideas, but I can usually improve/get inspired from the ideas from others.
What else can you do with panels that would require thinking with panels?

Quote from The Irate Pirate on August 21, 2011, 5:13 amA slow moving panel wall like the compactor scene in Star Wars would be pretty epic.
Somebody created a pretty cool panel that moves up when you look at it that somebody made here on the site, I managed to create a test chamber using it but I couldn't get it to properly work on the more elaborate puzzles so I gave up.

What did you have trouble on? I could help.Don't worry about it, I lost interest in the map ages ago and I can't be bothered to try to get it work properly. The game mechanic definitely had potential though, i'd try to make a proper chamber based on it if I was you Chickenmobile, with your skill it'd be great.
