Mapping contest 2013? Please?
Quote from FelixGriffin on August 22, 2013, 8:21 amSomething I would like to see would be, if the challenge were a short time limit like last year, if everyone were asked to make a screencast of them building the level (just record each day, then splice the videos). Then someone (presumably the contest organizers, but I could do it myself if necessary) could speed up all the videos to make time-lapses of the same length and combine them together, so we could see different entrants mapping techniques.

Quote from ChickenMobile on August 22, 2013, 10:02 amThat sounds like infinitely too much work and harddrive space.

Quote from Gemarakup on August 22, 2013, 10:56 amBesides, not everyone can record videos. But this is a good idea if it was convenient for people to do that for people that can record videos (but you'll get quite a few videos from them, because it's every day probably).

Quote from srs bsnss on August 22, 2013, 11:48 amActually on that note, one thing that I'd love to see is a time lapse of a map being built in Hammer, empty void to finished product. It's a fascinating process, if I may say so myself.

Quote from RubbishyUsername on August 22, 2013, 1:00 pmWhilst we're on the topic of oddball contest suggestions, I'd like to see a crossover contest where the TWP mappers compete to make a TF2 map and the tf2maps mappers struggle to make a Portal map. The winner is the one that gets the highest rating on the L4D2 workshop.

Quote from Gemarakup on August 22, 2013, 1:06 pmA L4D map based on a TF2 and P2 crossover... Most original idea, but that's probably not acceptable. Those things are optional for the mapper.

Quote from FelixGriffin on August 22, 2013, 4:26 pmPlus, I don't have L4D 1 or 2, and know nothing about making TF2 maps. I'm sure there are others with the same problem.
I agree that it might be too hard to record the videos, but I'd love to see top mappers' timelapses set next to each other. It would be cool to see how their styles varied.

Edit: Wait, I think we're not supposed to bump threads...I apologize.

Quote from iWork925 on October 17, 2013, 8:53 amI pursued this back in August, and I had a few key people on board. I also offered a fairly large amount of my own money for prizes. But ultimatley, we needed msleeper's approval; which unfortunatly, we never got.
