Quote from KennKong on November 25, 2011, 2:33 amThe setting for these maps was fantastic, with the BTS areas as good as any in the original game. We liked the Ratman's Den. The switchable world portals are a clever idea, but a clearer indication of their activation and connections might help. It's easy to miss them at first because of the delay between the activation step and the opening of the portal. The changing elements in the room made finding the solution a challenge, and that's a compliment, not a criticism.
One fatal bug: we got trapped beneath the reversible platform and had to noclip out from under it. It needs a player clip under the panel.
We didn't like the invisible fizzler next to the first laser cube dropper.
We had great difficulty flinging to the highest button. For some reason, our player orientation coming out of the horizontal panel (the one raised by the sphere) was constantly changing, making it impossible for us to place the portal for the fling. We may have not seen the intended solution. We noclipped to the button after many, many failed attempts.
This map came very close to earnng a 5 from us. The fact that we got stuck due to a flaw in the map and wasted a lot of time trying to make the flings detracted from the overall fun, so we give it a 4/5.
EDIT: After two more hours of trying, we were not able to execute the fling to the highest button. Our method
Red portal on outer horizontal panel.
Press button, blue+purple auto-accelerate, fire yellow.
Try to hit blue and purple on way down from ceiling.
Just not enough time on way down to make the shots, mainly because you are going up so fast you have no time to aim on the way up.
Quote from tmv23 on December 2, 2011, 4:38 pmhi there,
this is my first posting here although i used this site for finding custom maps since a few weeks or months. first of all in general: 95 % of the maps i played were really good stuff and i enjoyed playing.
but now about this map. i played it with a buddy of mine today and we made it to the end but i'm somehow sure that the final step to solve it was not intended so i thought the author may be happy when i post this to help him fix this glitch. i'll write the whole text in spoiler...
i'm talking about the very end of the whole map. i was the one who was locked in the small rooms all the time, which are connected by those weird white gates. What we did in the end was to incline one of the laser cubes by stacking it onto the radio from the hidden room so the laser beam would be redirected at an angle pointing downwards. Now the side that stood on the radio was just high enough to reach ist by pointing the laser directly into the room containing the receiver and then redirecting it at the inclined cube. Once the reciever was activated the beam could be removed and we were able to leave the room.
This seems unlikely to be the right solution, but we could find no other way, since the windows of that room were to high to reach the receiver in another way. Using the word portals seemed not helpful either, since they're only activated by the laser itself.
i made a screenshot of it afterwards and uploaded it, so its maybe easier to imagine what i mean even if the riddle is already solved at the point of capturing it - you might get the concept.

btw we still have no idea how to solve the end in the intended way (if there is another)hope this is helpful

That way you can place 2 portals on it and jump back and forth so you can take your time to shoot the right portal. Didn't you find it suspicious that that panel was so big? But still its me to blame, i admit that that map was too devilishly hard..
I greatly appreciate the feedback thoughand sorry i didnt respond sooner.
P.S. That map was my second ever so i hate to use the rookie card but i promise that next one will be much better and more polished.

Oh man you made me laugh. I never, not in a million years, expected someone to use the freakin radio to solve the puzzle but...there you go. The expected solution was to (like you though) get the laser through the gates and into the receiver. You have 3 seconds after the laser goes off for the gates to go off. But i dont blame you, it was a hard to realize it. Actually i say congrats for using the damn radio. That has to be the most clever problem solving i've ever seen. So funny...

P.S. Thanks a lot for the feedback and for posting an image of the exploit. I appreciate it.
