Ameatuerish Displacement

Page 1 of 3Next

Okay so i just got into figuring out how to do displacement for turrain, however I am stumped as to why these shadows appear at the edges of every damn brush. I was trying to make a hole in the ground.

Just when I think I understand the system, it changes on me.

whoops, thought i put it in there

Just when I think I understand the system, it changes on me.

step 1: select your brush with the texture application tool.
step 2: push the alt button and keep it pressed
step 3: rightclick on the adjecent texture.
step 4: post a new picture

the textures shifted, but the shadows remained. I may have to start over. I wish holes could be made without using more than one texture.

Just when I think I understand the system, it changes on me.

What LP explained is to make all adjacent textures have the same orientation, because this can usually produce different shadowing or bad lighting in some brushes' sides if not evenly oriented (I suggest that you make sure that all textures are "Aligned to World" in the face edit sheet). If you do like she said, you'll probably get rid of that issue. However, that issue can also be produced by brushes with different nature: a func_detail can be lighten up differently than a func_brush (you can set its self-shadowing or if it will cast shadows for example) or a world brush...
