[WIP] [WIP] Forbidden Tests

Page 1 of 2Next

These three tests were forbidden by Aperture's supervisors because the testing elements they included were too lethal.
And yes, another way of testing is now possible.

Warning: The map, first of mine, is far from release. Some bugs are to be fixed, some things are to be changed, some new tests are to be added.
Plus, you'll need Unused Signage, fixed paint_speed sign and Working Energy Balls + Clean models + Instances for correct display of icons and energy balls.

Version 0.9: Another way added. Many bugs fixed.
Version 0.8: Fixed some bugs; indicator panels and signs added.
Version 0.7: Fixed bugs; indicator panels added in the 3rd room.

OK just had a playthrough of this, it shows potential, and the map looks great, but there are some issues.

If I'm honest, I didn't like the first puzzle. It wasn't really a puzzle, no thinking involved. You just wait to see where the energy ball goes then put portals on THE ONLY 2 white surfaces within the emancipation grill.

I was unable to fully solve the last puzzle, it seems like it has potential to be great, but with no idicator lights I had no idea what was doing what. Also, no cubemap in that room. I didn't see any possible way of getting the other cube (with an emacipation grill below the dropper) as I couldn't find anything to disable it. It seemed like I was spending more time working out what all the buttons and the laser actually did, rather than solving the puzzle.

Thank you. About the first chamber I can say that it isn't really a puzzle - just a small test of your speed and understanding of the situation. I think I'll add some variability to this chamber.
Also I thought about not getting ALL of the grills disabled after the ball being caught, but that would come later into existence.

And yes, many things should be added, such as the indicator lights, sounds and GLaDOS' quotes. The ceiling's grill is disabled by pressing both 2 buttons in that room. And now I see that I've forgot to add some of the cubemaps.

Enjoyed it so far. Cant wait to see whats behind the other doors. I liked the energy ball room. Not all multi-room maps has to have complex puzzles in each room. Good job so far.

"I am not a Marshmallow"

The ideas and the puzzles are not bad, the map itself is buggy like hell though, starting with showing error-textures for the energyball-catcher and -thrower coming along with tons of other bugs. Unfortunately this is not yet worth being uploaded as video, this would screw my viewers. But keep it going and fix some stuff and this may become a decent map.

I noticed the problems with the textures, but I don't yet know how to fix them. So could you tell me the other bugs so I would be able to fix them?

Hold on, you haven't downloaded these 2 packs? Without them the textures won't work - I haven't packed them in. By the problems said before, I meant the situation when the ball comes through a portal and you can see the changing of its textures.

I didnt get errors after loading in the things said in first post.Ran kinda good I thought.

Version 0.8 uploaded - signs and indicator lights added.

I'm coming with a new test idea currently, which will fit as an alternative scenario if you'll find the secret cube and enter the central door. Will be coming soon.

Edit: So I've finally done that. 4th room is ready. Please comment and tell me your bugs.

I'm playing custom maps and record my first time of playing them. So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:

Nice.. took me a much shorter time than you to solve the last bit, which is not usually the case.. lol Thanks for posting all your vide. I think the intended solution for the last part involves exiting the chamber with a redirection cube to open the final door.
