The country I live in is sickening

Page 1 of 3Next

Heya there,

So...over the past couple of days...all hell has been loose and the Kaiser Chiefs did indeed "Predict a Riot".

BBC wrote:
Some 16,000 police officers are being deployed on London's streets in a bid to prevent a fourth night of rioting, with support drafted from 30 forces.

Businesses in some areas closed early in a bid to avoid the kind of violence that spread through London on Monday.

David Cameron has recalled Parliament for Thursday in response to the "sickening scenes", which prompted unrest in other cities.

The riots have also spread to Birmingham and also in Manchester.

This all started from a peaceful protest, where nothing was wrong about it, all polite people. The original protest was regarding a 29 year old man being shot and killed by a police officer. However, later on it was revealed that the man maybe could not have fired any bullets at all.

Whilst searching for more news about the riot, I came across this. This is where people who are rioting help a man up, only to rob him of his backpack items.

What are the police doing about it? Not very much. I keep seeing footage of people breaking into shops and destroying cars etc, however, no police are approaching or doing anything to stop it, they are just watching.

It annoys me where I have to live in a country where the justice is just too soft.

Wow, that is awful.

Since this topic is up, I guess I ought say what's on my mind about the country I live in.
In the U.S., a lot of people are pissed off about having 2 political parties that won't properly compromise to solve the debt ceiling problem. The liberals want to increase tax on large corporations to help pay off the debt. The conservatives however, want to make more spending cuts, which also includes lots of people getting fired from work. The conservative absolutely refuse to increase tax on the rich people.

I'm not trying to say that this is worse. What happened in London and the other cities is really terrible. I'm just mentioning this since there is a topic that would fit in it.

Crazy is as crazy does.

The US political situation has absolutely nothing with a bunch of foreign hoodlums burning down buildings and throwing rocks at ineffectual police officers.

This may have started as an actual protest, but at this point it's just people looting and being dicks because there's nothing stopping them.

As a fellow British citizen, I can empathise with you, and along with all the other stuff going on in the world, I'm really not that proud to even be human. However, you have to look at this from the other angle; for every one person who's doing this for the right reasons, there are probably three or four in it just to cause trouble. I'm not saying there aren't innocent people, but at this rate, things are going to get even more out of proportion than they are already; what these people are doing is responding to a man's untimely death by causing another man's untimely death (someone was shot last night in London) and, if this carries on, there may be other lives taken, from fires, guns or just bare hands. You have a point about the police not being quite as optimised in their performance as they could be, but they're doing all that they can; it's just that they're spread out too thin right now to act in some areas. If we had police force at the scene of every crime committed, we'd have a single leg or maybe an eyeball rolling around there, because we simply do not have enough manpower, and it's being whittled down constantly; over a hundred police and five police dogs were injured just last night. Furthermore, what was the Tottenham riots has become the London riots, and now it's just the UK riots, with people in Manchester (never the quietest of places), Bristol and more joining in just for fun. Really, if you want to make a point to the government, just stop, and talk. Please.

...wow, that was fun to write.:D

This. I don't live in the UK so I really can't say much other than what I've heard about on Twitter, BBC America, and other news channels, but it seems like the violence that's occuring no longer has anything to do with any inciting event. It's now just idiots who think it's fun to destroy property under the pretense that they're angry at the government even though it's obvious that there's no way destroying others' lives would effect a change in this situation.

I give a lot of credit to those who are helping to clean up the cities after the riots. We need something in the universe to help balance the number of fools it contains.

Although I do not condone what they are doing I certainanly understand where they are coming from. No one should stay silent to such injustice, including the obvious Duggan cover up.

Also I can't stand my country either, its neutrality knows no bounds.

So these kids are standing up against injustice... by looting a clothing store?

:sigh:
Of course it doesn't, I'm just saying that I'm not too thrilled about the country I live in either.

Back to the topic, think iWork925 meant before the peaceful protest turned into a stupid riot. Protesting about the man being shot is okay, but robbing people and stores is not.

Is it such a crime to fight tyranny AND look fashionable at the same time? jk

But seriously, their overall idea is solid but their method is way off, why rob? What does that achieve. Burn the police station down.

I wonder who's idea it was to start a riot?
