[SP] [SP] Three Plus One

Page 1 of 2Next

Okay, this is my very first Portal 2 map. Do you know these ideas which come to your mind right before falling asleep and won't let you rest? This map was one of them.

It is a single player map challenging those who have played through the game yet. The task is to open the final door in the center of the test chamber by placing 4 cubes on the buttons in front of it. The first one will be given to you for free. For the other ones, you will have to visit the three rooms sorrounding the chamber and solve the puzzles in it.

Map Theme: Clean
Difficulty: Easy to Medium
Puzzle Elements: Cubes, funnel beams, emancipation grids, turrets, lasers and blue and white gel

Very easy level. I did not need the white gel or any of the funnels to complete the map. I only used the blue gel

Spoiler
to take out the turrets.

I also noticed a portable surface directly over the exit that allows you to complete the level in just a few seconds.

EDIT: The antique cube can still be

Spoiler
tossed out the opening.
I would suggest to grate the upper portion or close it off with glass.
It is possible to get trapped in the pit if you portal the cube out and put the cube on the button and then go in the funnel. I don't know why you would go in the funnel but just to let you know.
The portable surfaces above and below
Spoiler
the funnel near the turret room makes it very easy to get the gel in the funnel. Without those you would have to use the funnel in the antique cube room (which is not needed otherwise) to get the white gel into the other funnel.

"I am not a Marshmallow"

Hey, thanks for your feedback!

Like just said, that's my very first Portal 2 map. And after three days of non-stop mapping I just had to upload it now! With a bit more testing I would have found these obvious bugs. I am planning to upload an bugfixed version by tomorrow.

The portable surface remains from the mapping phase where I used the measurement textures. I just forgot to change it.

I was wondering, how you were able to get

Spoiler
the old-style aperture cube from the pit without the white gel and the funnels
, until I found out that
Spoiler
you just can throw it through the lower window.
This will not be possible in the updated version anymore.

And I hope the difficulty "medium" will be appropriate then :-D

But thanks for discovering these two bugs!

I just finished the map - I did not have to use any gel except for blue to take out the turrets. I too, got the old style cube without the white gel. I also went up in the funnel and sort of floated out of it and kept floating out the window, without help from the funnel. But I did enjoy the puzzles, and the ending was fun. Keep up the good work!

v1.1 has just been uploaded. If you have downloaded the older version of this map, please overwrite it with the new file or delete it before!

Unappealing, oddly built short map with an otherwise interesting multipart puzzle. Somewhat loose, as you can ignore the blue gel and even one of the rooms - should you set your mind to it, which is actually a fun challenge.

the hills are alive... with the sound of music

It was definitely more of a challenge to retrieve the antique cube now that you've release v1.1.

Sorry to be dim, but is the second chamber a dead end (the room you enter after passing through the exit)?

@doud_ftc: I guess you mean the confetti room. Yes, it is a dead end now, because it is the end of the map. I will release another update within the next days. You will be brought back to the main menu after the confetti falling down.

@xdiesp: I don't want to be whiny, but if you describe a mapping beginner's very first released map with words like "unappealing", you might discourage him (which you didn't do with me, don't be worried). And if you ask me, a Portal 2 map cannot be oddly-built enough  , as long as there is a chance of finding a solution. But your idea of leaving out the BLUE gel and one of the rooms is interesting. Would you kindly send me a PM explaining how you did that?

I play the last version available. I sisn't need tou use the funnels ans the white gel toget the cubes.

I'm playing custom maps and record my first time of playing them. So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:
