[SP] PSICODELIA Test One v1.3

PreviousPage 2 of 3Next

I tested the updated version, here's everything:

- It's missing cubemaps;

- This hole would be better wider (mas largo), not longer. Just the same size of the white panel below, with a grid:

- All observation rooms contain either nodraw textures or holes to the void outside the map:

- Unaligned textures:

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc12 ... -03-00.jpg

- You can reach this button by portaling up and jumping:
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc12 ... -37-48.jpg

- I had already completed the map via the intended solution the first time, just noticing at the very end how it could have been exploited from the get go. However, there are a couple elements I still have no idea what they are for - these laser, button and laserbell. Their signs as of now are not understandable. And what's the use for the orange funnel?

- That button up there is basically invisible, maybe add some signs to it:
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc12 ... -14-18.jpg

- Portaling to that platform at the very bottom of a pit, close to the exit door, often kills you and fizzles the cube;

- No escape scenarios:

1) The space invader platform before the glass over it is raised, or the cube one for the same reason. The first can be fixed with a far away white panel which doesn't interfere with any puzzle. The latter is still acceptable, but could be prevented by catapulting the player away and destroying the cube.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc12 ... -15-95.jpg

2) This entire area if you don't have the funnel to pass the gap between the bridges. Could use a ladder to the first part of the bridge:
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc12 ... -15-39.jpg

3) Put the companion cube on the plate which turns this funnel's target black, then destroy the lasercube and go back here. You can't go get another lasercube, because there's no way of using the funnel to snipe a portal to the lasercube above. No ideas here, maybe a button to throw any cube away from that plate:
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc12 ... -00-72.jpg

4) Jump to the ending corridor with the fizzlers on, there's no way back:

Well done with all the fixes. One question: if you get to the 2nd room, use both portals so you don't have the funnel anymore, can you still pass the broken bridge?

No, not possible (AFAIK), try a simple way to fix it but could not, all seemed very complicated to do. It's a price to be paid because of people cheating.

So just before going to the second room makes a "save game" :D

anyway I think it's okay, maybe more to solve this problem before but before other maps are the same or even more difficult xDDDDD

I did not think a map could be "too hard" since I assumed the harder it is - the better.

Stunning, amazing, intricate . . . but this map is too hard. There are numerous areas that you have to either be a genius to figure out, or get lucky, or fly around in NoClip mode aimlessly.

For example, the Laser in the 2nd room:

Spoiler
1) the sensor is completely hidden and not only is it hidden, but it is an all-black square, so there is no way I would have ever recognized it as a laser receiver.
2) you have to put the two portals so that the laser exits the 2nd portal - goes back into the first portal and changes direction to exit the 2nd portal again. Very cool concept but impossible for 99% of the players to figure out IMO - especially since you have no idea there is a laser sensor there.

Then there are those very high upper floors that you are required to have knowledge of.
I don't know - I see a couple of the resident Portal Experts figured it out, but even after watching the solution I saw many things that for me at least, are simply impossible to figure out without watching the walkjthrough. I ended up NoClipping and still could not solve this, as I flew around and pressed buttons. It's as if the author tried to hide and conceal EVERYTHING in every step of the solution. As if during the making of this, at each step he asked himself . . . "hmmm, how can I make this step extremely difficult to figure out". And then after making it extremely difficult - re-evaluated whether or not there was a way to make that step even more difficult.

I liked the part where

Spoiler
you go back to the first room to retrieve the cube - that was fun and very cool - the timer was over generous but it did not matter. I found it surprising that when I brought the cube back and took it upstairs, that the floor cube square button turned the checkmark into an X instead of turning thew X into a checkmar
k.

I also like the look and feel of the surfaces - shiny Black and White everywhere. Very clean - like a Gameroom.

So, overall I appreciate it as a huge effort but it is a 384-step Japanese Puzzle box which most cannot get through. I got through the first level then after a few hours I quit in the 2nd level. It became very frustrating.

lifeson99 Thank you for your comments.

If it is not a map for beginners. I realized that all the maps considered "difficult" really just were complicated because the stunts were difficult to make or has hidden his puzzles. were not very logical puzzles.

Then I played "Engineer v1" I find it so amazing (very logical and very difficult) I decided to make an extremely difficult but logical puzzle.

I have only 2 questions:

1: The laser sensor does not actually meets the eye?

Spoiler

2: You told actually 384 steps to solve the puzzle?

A Greeting.

PD: I am preparing a new walkjthrough the latest version when ready to climb the post.

I think Distracted by Love took me almost two hours as well, you should check that one out.

This was an absolutely excellent map. My favorite map by far! I had been busy recently and only just now tried it, and spectacular - a true masterpiece.

After solving the puzzle (it took me 4 hours!), I watched the walkthrough video. Our solutions were quite different in some places, so this puzzle still retains some multiple solutions.

One interesting note regarding the portal surface above the timed door that takes you back to the first room where the Companion Cube is waiting: this portal surface is unnecessary. I never even realized it was there.

Also, I ended up burning a lot of time because I did not realize that the light bridge remained on after the laser was removed from the relay. I thought that it had to stay there, and was working to get the companion cube into the button pit without touching the redirection cube (don't try it; it's impossible).

In any case, these are minor, minor things. Your map was phenomenal, entertaining, and just the right difficulty to be interesting but not frustrating. Your logical puzzles were well-thought-out and did not fail reason. Your father would be proud.

Regards, and thank you for a great map,
Ryan

Ryan Thanks for your feedback and support, the trap to get the cube company has already been solved easily (thanks for comment).

I look forward to do another chamber to enjoy as much as the first.
