[SP] Gymnasium Part 2
Quote from marKiu on May 23, 2012, 4:17 pmNice little map. I saw Shakkys vid of The Ledge and used this for the first room. The intended solution of the funnel room was great... Never thought of using the funnel this way. Very clever but it's possible to jump from the button on the glass. That made it alot easier.
The gel room was a bit too short in my opinion. You could have thought about something more there...
Btw the gel is not needed. It's possible to throw the cube on the button by placing a portal at the very top.
I experimented in the gel room and found a nice idea for my next map. Thanks for sharing

That made it alot easier.I swear, every map I make I get a new bane of my mapping existence - this time it was jumping on buttons (already had zivi jumping through the ceiling in the first release). Anyway, thanks for pointing that out. Still, I couldn't actually pull it off myself, so I might leave that one in for the ninja players. Ditto for the no gel solution for the final room - possible, yeah, but I found it a lot harder without than with, and I'd like to keep it at a level of difficulty that's somewhat accessible to more casual players.* Turns out I do need to update anyway, though, because I totally forgot to do the player clipping on that hole in the wall...

I might come back to it at another point and flesh it out a bit. .
*EDIT: Haha, actually, on closer inspection you can just place it in. Right, will sort that out!

Quote from sicklebrick on May 24, 2012, 3:21 pmVery nice puzzle ^^
I'm loving these hybrid puzzles, marked out in the puzzle creator then tweaked in hammer - seems to be a nice tradeoff between design time and flexibility. My only real concern was that this particular gymnasium has a distinct lack of cheerleaders.Edit: Some alt solutions

Actually, nothing too bad, although that
pressing the button through the portal
may have to be stamped out. Love the catch in the first room. Cheers for the vid!

This is what I came up with, but I'm quite sure my solution for the second chamber was unintended:

BTW, you can just shoot a portal at the end of the funnel from above. You don't need to actually go through it.

Quote from PCdoc on August 10, 2012, 2:14 pmStuck again . . . refusing to watch video - again . . . don't even wanna watch "The Ledge" video. How to get through the first fizzler in first room. Very preplexing and with almost no visible mechanics to apply some special trick with.
BTW I just finished Gymnasium 1 which was one of your easier puzzles IMO.
But still fun - racing to the exit in 2 seconds. I love minimalist maps !!!P.S. Boxy Trixy remains my favorite map and it is far from minimalist - even though it is Portal 1, I just love that map..

Quote from El Farmerino on August 10, 2012, 7:54 pmThe best I can say about that is not to think too hard, as the solution is kind of stupid... There's a hefty clue
in the map description too.
I'd be interested in knowing how you did the second half of Part 1, if you wouldn't mind explaining.
