[SP] Fizzled Panels

Page 1 of 3Next

This is my first Portal 2 map. It's a clean map with three chambers and testing elements such as cubes, buttons, discouragement beams and turrets. Feedback is appreciated.

Please note that the map file is a .vpk file which isn't installed the same way as a .bsp file. Please take your time to look at the readme even if you know how to install the map (otherwise, things might go very wrong).

If you're having problems in chamber 3

Spoiler
with a cube not catapulting by the faith plate, just press the button for a new cube.

v 1.0
-release

v 1.1
-put first fizzler in chamber 1 higher up
-changed the faith plate in chamber 3 (puzzle is a bit different)

Excellent map! Tons of fun to play. Puzzles were thoughtful but not too difficult. I expecially enjoyed room 3 because I like to fling. I thought if you put some timers in it, it would make it more challenging, expecially for the flinging puzzle. If you add on to this map, please do something with funnels and gel - then it will have everything.
Map looks great - everything worked fine. Keep up the great work!

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. I don't think I will add any more to the puzzles though, just going to fix bugs. I'll try to make future maps a bit more challenging instead.

I enjoyed the maps. They did not transition from one to the next though. I had to do it manually. Oh, and thanks for the heads up on moving the file after playing. I was wondering how my single player game was messed up from a previous download.

pure awesomeness
you defenitly deserve :cake:

I found an exploit in the very first room.

Spoiler
You can jump and grab the cube before it reach the emancipation grid, thus skipping the whole room. You could avoid this by raising the emancipation grid so that the cube gets destroyed before it comes in hand reach.

Also, the levels are kind of small, if you could put them all in one it would be great!

Other than that these are really nice maps!

Good job!

Nice set of maps. Very professionally built, look great (well, map #3 could use some variation of textures) and enjoyable puzzles.

Nothing that really had me thinking much, by I had a good time playing them anyway.

I'm playing custom maps and record my first time of playing them. So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:

Also note the video description for more feedback and my signature for additional project information.

The above video is only the first chamber as I had already rendered it before I noted that there were more maps in the vpk. So I decided to give each of the chambers its own video as I didn't feel like re-rendering.
So here are part 2...

A clean map, with decent if somewhat easy puzzles. I found no obvious glitches, except:
The bouncing cube was a bit flaky. Sometimes the cube would just fall into the water (before I had even gone for it), other times it would stop bouncing and just lay on the platform by the catapult.

Spoiler
The fling
to get the cube has a variety of unpleasant results depending on my timing. I fell short into the drink, I hit the angle plate and bounced into the drink, and I landed on the catapult.

I much preferred the first laser cube catch, which could be repeated without death. The final one got annoying, because I like to be able to get something on the first try after I have figured out what to do.

There is a potential exploit in the final room, although I freely admit I lack the ninja skills to pull it off.

Spoiler
After the cube is bouncing, if you land on the catapult platfrorm (which I did), you can grab the cube and throw it onto the bridge button (which I almost did). You might be able to land on the bridge (I couldn't pull that off, but it was awfully close!)

I didn't experience any of the difficulties you warn about in the readme file. My single player game still works fine with your .vpk present.

EDIT 9/26: Oh, yes I did have problems leaving the .vpk file there. Forewarned is forearmed; knowing there was a potential problem made finding the fix trivial.

A fairly decent job for a first map. I gave it a 4/5, but the same level of visuals and easy puzzles in a second map probably would only get a 3. I would like to see more dramatic lighting, textures, some sound, and better puzzles. Still, overall, I liked it. Keep going, this is a very good start.

I'll try to fix

Spoiler
the thing when you can grab the cube and avoid the puzzle
, but I don't think I can put everything in one level, it would be too complex at this stage.

Is there anyone else having this problem? I don't know but if you have any other .vpk's in the addons folder with custom transition scripts that might be what causes the problem. Try having just one .vpk in the folder and see if it works.
