[SP] Chander Test 4.1
Quote from jcalla on September 26, 2011, 8:33 amFor those who are flummoxed by the fizzlers...
Hint 1: Think with
funnel
s.
Hint 2:
The middle room with the light bridge is a clever bit of spacial misdirection? putting distance between the two rooms gives the impression that each puzzle is completely independent. If the funnel were closer to the fizzlers, the solution for getting the cubes across might be more obvious.
Hint 3:
Neither cube ever needs to go over the light bridge.
Solution:
Start by getting the cubes onto the two furthest buttons in such a way that you wind up with a portal at either end of the corridor. Proceed to the room with the funnel, reverse its direction, jump in and portal through to the start of the corridor. Stand on the far left edge of the first button to disable the fizzler, and carefully place a portal on the back wall to funnel the first cube back toward you (taking care not to get yourself caught in the funnel and pulled off of the button). Retrieve the cube and place it on the first button, stand on the far right of the second button and repeat the process to retrieve the second cube. Portal them back into the funnel room, minding the fizzler at the source of the funnel; a fizzled cube means starting over from scratch.
Anyway, here is my playthrough:

Just say how I admire Chander's puzzlemaking ability. I have to admit that I've just become a huge fan of your work, man! I would like to know how the heck can you just imagine such these great puzzles in your mind!
This map took me half the whole weekend!
And once you finally discover how to get the cubes out of the fizzlers with the funnel, the map is just around one minute or two!!
Like the previous maps, this is absolutely awesome, overall for those who like hard and twisting maps like me.

So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:eT4PpqO4wB4

Quote from Portal2Two on September 27, 2011, 10:30 amThe hardest was the cube jumping and falling off in the end, which I could get right only twice out of 10 attempts - it just jumps up and then off to the funnel or just off the elevated panel! I rate it 5 but doing so in hopes you'll fix the "jumper". Anyway, my speedrun:

Aw aw aw, xdiesp likes state-based puzzles - especially this difficult. Delightful how you can pace this genre (essentially games of locks) from "witty skirmishes" to "monster enigma". But all things considered, some more indications would have helped the neophytes getting through. And interesting to see back the P1's full-white decor. Suggested if only for the analytical process involved.
There's a way to make it with just 1 cube. Timing is all, you have to fly the cube onto the laser while the funnel is blue, and the funnel must chanbe colours right when the laser hits.

And the cube falling off in the end remains the most frustrating glitch.

In my opinion adding indications would kill the beauty of this level. Keep it that way just tweak the last small glitch

Well, it's quite different for
I didn't use the funnel to get two cubes to the final area
.And yet
I've found a way to exclude cube falling off the platform
.So here is my video.

Quote from KennKong on March 14, 2012, 6:48 pmYou need portal bumpers on the fizzlers to prevent a trivial solution to the first part. That isn't any fun, though, so I spent another hour or so figuring out the intended solution. That's much more fun and interesting! 4/5.
I've been playing Chander's maps out of sequence, so the progression isn't clear to me, but it's obvious he's one of the best puzzle makers out there, and getting better (and more vicious) all the time.
