Very well put together map.

I like that there was two separate puzzles connected using the flinging element, though the first one seemed a little too easy, especially compared to the second "main event" puzzle.

Your ratman den was a little boring, and the camera in there had some weird physics/bounding box issue. I'll have to look at the VMF and see what the problem was, but I doubt it was specifically your fault. I'm also not sure how I feel about using a ratman den as part of the actual puzzle itself. They are supposed to be hidden little areas, not an aspect of the test proper.

Aside from the ratman den, I think design-wise the map was great. The bridge connecting the two areas seemed a little out of place, but every room was finely detailed and very well lit. Loved it!

Really nice Portal1-Style map. Instead of msleeper, i really liked the ratman den. Expecially the fact that help me to go back in the part where i made the mistake (at first time, i thought i needed a reload or a suicide)

First puzzle is maybe too easy, compared with last one.

Thanks for the kind words! This was my first ever time working with the hammer editor, never mind making a portal map. I learned nearly everything as I went along (There's still some I don't quite understand and a lot still left to learn). I was rushing at the very end and so it's not quite at the quality I would have liked.

The first chamber started as just something to practice basic mechanics and build an understanding of the editor and it evolved from there. This wasn't intended to be the map we actually submitted to the contest, but time did not allow us to start over. I did want to stick to some of the Portal 1 themes as I felt Valve strayed a little far from this in Portal 2, and I wanted to bring the rusty, gritty feel back. The glass bridge was inspired by the similar structures found in the Metroid games.

We decided to leave the first chamber in there as a sort of warm up to get people thinking about flinging with and without cubes. We had several friends play-test the map, which was very informative, and they seemed to enjoy it quite a bit.

Considering this is our first map and the relatively positive feedback, we are more than happy with our submission. We will be releasing an updated/refined version in the near future along with our originally planned map some time after that.

IIRC the rattman den was kind of a bonus since you should have died like the cube did, and can be skipped altogether. I wasn't too impressed because of room 2: 1 is just an introduction, no questions asked there; but 2 got repetitive at the Nth fling, since they had to be stacked to reach on top.

Chambers so big, even when they're clean they also look likw vacant space: instead the behind the scenes part and the den, those left me intrigued.

Very well put together map. I hadn't realized that one panel behind the glass until I had been flinging for awhile though, so I guess something could've been done there to make it stand out a bit more. I loved the ratman den at first I just thought of it as an empty space but I was able to find the rest of it. Nice use of the Propulsion and Repulsion gels.

I enjoy flinging, and this map had a couple good ones in it. The second chamber was over-sized vertically, but I can see the need for a little horizontal space. The ratman's den as a way to escape death was a nice use of what is usually just an easter egg. A fun map to play, but too big, too bland and too easy to get a 4, so 3/5 from me.
