putting lights in my maps

I don't really have a gaming computer, so that might be the problem. But I have tried playing Portal 2, and it runs fairly well even on high settings. But when I try adding a light in my maps, I will test it, and it locks my computer up. I can't even open the task manager when it happens, so I have to just hold the power button. Because of this, I can't even add elevators to my maps. I have read/watched tutorials on adding lights, and I think I am doing everything right. I usually test my maps through Hammer, but for this I have even closed the authoring tools and opened Portal 2 and went to my map through the console, and it still happens. So why is it doing this?

If you need to know anything, I will post it. Thanks in advance

Is this happening on all your maps or just one? If its just one it might be a leak. If its all of them, it might be a problem with your computer. (or your settings in Portal 2)

"Oh, in case you got covered in that repulsion gel, here's some advice the lab boys gave me: DO NOT get covered in the repulsion gel."

It happens on all maps. I have checked for leaks and there aren't any. I guess it could just be my computer, but I just don't understand why one small map would lock up, but I don't have a problem running the maps that were in the actual game.

Post your system specs.

Have you tried verifying your game files through Steam? It seems unlikely but you could have a corrupt DLL or something.

Yeah, that doesn't exactly sound specific. It kinda sounds like it's either freezing on compiling or when trying to run Hammer and the actual game simultaneously. Do post system specs...
