My suggestion: look at tophattwaffle's and solarchronus's videos on YouTube. They have good tutorials for both gameplay and aesthetics. Then you can showcase your map in the map showcasing thread using an ingame screenshot with good lighting.

Quote from Ultiman9711 on December 9, 2013, 6:50 pmEh, the Hammer screen is still better than 90% of the crap on the Workshop. It's really awesome to see someone actually bothering to learn Hammer instead of wandering around saying "it's too hard for me!" I say to you Sphere: keep it going! But this screen is still kinda random.

Otherwise the Editor is very good to fast test something planned, Puzzles. Its a little bit sad, because more people who like portal, would try to map in Hammer, when there would be no pti.
The pti editor is causing, that there are sometimes good maps, but nobody will see it, because this map is hided under 500.000 Pti maps..EDIT: Back to the theme. @Sphere, Maybe you have some other pictures of your map in the screen? It also looks like you try to make a little "story". Hm, look forward how you keep up your 'project'. For the wall texture on the right, a little tip: click on the texture tool (Click on the block with the blue, orange and green coloured sides). Select the texture on the walls, and click on the window under "Justify" at the "B" and the "L" (Or "R"). Magic!

The PTI mapper is okay if you just do it for fun once in a while, but if you consider yourself a serious mapper an dont know hammer, I wouldn't approve of that. Plus, to rub in the quality level of PTI, look at the VERY first map ever published to the workshop. Go ahead: http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=620&browsesort=mostrecent&browsefilter=mostrecent&p=10341
I'm on the last page on most recent, and it's in the lower right corner. Go ahead and play it. It's painful

Quote from Gemarakup on December 10, 2013, 1:43 amThe problem with PTI is that people think it's a mapmaker and not a puzzle maker, so they build lots of tedious rooms and beg RADELITE for mods used in BEE2 for every single thing, and they make panels activated with triggers which are "reconstructing" and use stylechanger to make their map more "visual". (I'm not blaming anyone who uses stylechanger for fun, it's more people who make "professional" maps).
So, good job with getting used to hammer, but if you want to post screenshots, use the showcasting thread. (And watch the videos mentioned for the !number time, because we're not going to be able to help with every single error).

Quote from Gemarakup on December 10, 2013, 1:05 pmWhat I find unfortunate is that Portal 2 isn't much easy to use to make maps that focus more on navigation than puzzles. I tried to resemble TopHATTwaffle's new CS:GO Arctic map's environment, but the first problem I had was that I didn't manage to make a brush tree as shown in the video.
