I wonder If we could intergrate a link to the forum into the end of a map. Possibly rate the map in-game. A little nutts maby.

You could theoretically do the former using the ScriptSteamShowURL() VScript function to open up the steam overlay and show a webpage about the map, but there are no other apis in vscript that will allow you to interact with the internet

Would both the scores from the users and admins/mods/contributors affect the final result? Because I think that could work.

For example,

User Score + Admin Score = Spotlight Map
OR
User Score + Admin Score = Don't Spotlight Map

The admins/mods/contributors could use the rating system already used for maps as the "User Score" and when the admins/mods/contributors have time to play the map, they could rate their opinion, 1-5, and if the total points are 8, 9, or 10, then the map should be in the Spotlight.

Another example,

5(user) + 4(admin) = 9 (Spotlight map)
5(user) + 2(admin) = 7 (Don't Spotlight)

While this idea is good in theory, it does mean that at least one admin has to play every map which scores 3 or more from everyone else. I suggest that, instead, we take each map rated 4 or 5 submitted that month, and divide these randomly among a group of people who have volunteered to test these maps and rate them. Each of these people puts forward three maps from their selection they think worthy of the spotlight, and this final selection of maps can be used for polling. The only issue I can see with this is maps which have not been rated, but I can't see any way around those other than playing them all :/

So, in short:

[ALL MAPS SUBMITTED THAT MONTH] -> [ALL MAPS SCORING >4] -> [MAPS CHOSEN BY JUDGES]
-> [MAPS CHOSEN BY POLL]

...if that makes sense.

A rating system would def help. Or maybe a button that says "Would you recommend this map?"

Maybe it could show how many people recommended it.

Honestly, I think the entire rating system should be remade. A lot of people, including myself, didn't like when YouTube trashed the 5 star rating system and switched over to a simple, "Like/Dislike" system but the plain and simple truth is 90% of people either voted 1 star or 5 stars depending on whether they liked the video or not. Very few people ever honestly analyzed the video in comparison to some of their favorites and gave it a proper rating.

I think the same goes for maps. People either like them or don't. The best maps will still stand out because they'll have more ratings than all the others.

As for trying to find a spotlight-worthy map each week, admins could see which have the most likes and and downloads and try out the maps accordingly.

I think the problem here is not enough people are voting. I feel like the solution to this is to turn the website into a slightly more social network kind of site without going overboard. A simple site bar like the one Google + or Facebook use could be used to notify you more easily of new messages (which are currently easy to overlook) and could also have a drop-down for "Rating Pending" maps that have been previously downloaded. If you didn't like the map enough but don't think its worthy of a negative vote, you can simply skip rating it by clearing it from the pending list. The point is I think that most users would be more engaged with the website with a bar that displays important things. Notifications are the kind of thing people can't help but check. As long as Rating Pending notifications aren't obtrusive color they shouldn't be annoying either.

I understand this isn't going to be easy to implement but I think it would really help out the community.

Also, we can make a section that is updated automatically with maps that "Still Need to be Rated" that consist of maps that have been downloaded a certain amount of times but have yet to be rated or have very few ratings.

For example, 10 downloads 1 rating probably wouldn't show up but something like 50 downloads 3 ratings would.

Just some ideas.

What about all the maps listed in the community roundup each week are all played by the admins, and then they choose the best one out of the list for the community spotlight. The computer would determine the most played and higly rated maps and put them in the roundup, and then the admins would choose the best one.

I like this solution, if It could only be clicked by members once a week and only members with like 20+ (or whatever posts).
