Idea for those skilled in Hammer (and a couple questions)

That didn't work, although there were little boxes over where (at least some) of the objects were supposed to be, so perhaps those were relevent? I'm thinking it's a problem with the save, as this happened once before on my home computer. Anyone heard of anything like that?

Those boxes can indicate invalid instances. See if the filenames inside are correct.

Is your map actually in steam/steamapps/common/portal 2/sdk_content both on your computer and on your friend's?

ooh no, I tossed it in downloads. yeah, I can see how that would do it. so putting it in the right place would fix it?

Yup, vmf's use relative paths
