How to make this Cube Throw ?
Quote from lifeson99 on July 28, 2011, 9:28 amSpoiler Alert: Video is the full walkthrough for Testchamber 117
At the 20-sec mark of this video is a mighty throw.
I tried numerous times but always am about a foot too low.I tried spin while throwing upward . . . I tried jumping just before . . . I tried jumping and throwing at the same time . . all to no avail. What am I doing wrong ?
I have also seen guys throw a cube 10 feet forward to bridge a gap or to go through kill beams and onto a button in an adjoining room - and I also cannot make those throws.
Can I get the method to do this from someone ? Thanks

Quote from lifeson99 on July 29, 2011, 8:26 amThanks for that - but I still would like to know if there is a trick to it, or if you just keep repeating until you somehow get it up there.
I practiced in an empty room and the cube just doesn't go far and it doesn't go high.
I think I just do not know the trick yet . . .

Quote from xdiesp on July 29, 2011, 10:39 amThink of the hammer throw at the olympics: turn around very fast, press the "use" button when you want the hammer to leave your hands. This game has a physics engine, so it will work somewhat realistically. To make the throw even further, jump as you press the button.

Quote from rellikpd on July 30, 2011, 7:28 amI'm not sure if this works in Portal 2 as much as it does in portal 1 (as I haven't started "ninja'ing" P2 yet (due to the lack of challenge maps.)) but, with portal 1 atleast, you could add a bit of "momentum" to the cube by pushing it into the ground before "whip-flinging" the shit out of it. like if you wanted to make a hard left throw, you could push it against an item to your right, before whipping hard left. To go up higher you could push it against the ground before whipping it hard-up.
xdiesp, can you chime in about whether or not this works as well in P2?

Quote from lifeson99 on July 30, 2011, 10:49 amYou started with the other cube seemingly right in the way of your "Hammer Throw" - amazing.
Hey - wait a minute . . . I could have stood on the other cube for an added 2 feet of height ! !

still reallllyyyy impressive! (more so really, considering it was done on a *shiver*.... console!)
The only thing i don't like is that he uses portal-glitches in to pull off some of the tricks. The ones he doesn't do this with are still really impressive... but i think the whole thing that makes "cube throws" amazing is when they are done within the confines of the "rules." Boosting yourself with portal glitches doesn't count imo.

Quote from lifeson99 on August 12, 2011, 7:32 pmOK OK - that was AMAZING.
But somebody tell me HOW ????????????
I tried the Olypic Hammer throw - to no avail.
I even tried the old "double-windup" that they use (well - they use quadruple windups - hehe).
Again to no avail and you need a super wide Mouse Pad.C'mon guys . . . http://www.InfoCellar.com/temp/DrEvil.wav !!!
