And it's also easy in case you want to change things throughout a series of maps, remember that portal 2 has quite some maps, if you have instances for lights for example and you want to change the light model, if you change the instance it automatically updates in all your maps (as soon as you compile it). Same goes with cubedroppers, faithplates etc.
