Editing Lag

I have been working on my level for a few days now, however I have come across a slight problem...

After I put in some acid liquid for a trap, along with a trigger in which to kill the player, the editor seems to lag quite a lot. However, after removing the acid and trigger, I have found that it is still lagging.

It has been fine with my other map which has a gel dropper, a box dropper, lasers, buttons and doors, ariel faith plates, and also the acid. This maps has had no lag problems at all. It's weird that it is just doing it for this specific map.

I am currently just uninstalling unnecessary programs from my computer and tomorrow I will perform a degrag of my computer, hoping that will help the problem a bit.

The computer is about 2 years old as well.

What could be the cause of this problem?

Post your specs. When was the last time you restarted your computer?

Too much geometry perhaps. Adjust you settings in hammer to reduce the amount of stuff you are rendering at once. http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki ... ws_Options

Hmmm, this is weird.

I changed the settings hoping it would adjust the speed of the editor, but alas there was no difference, even when restarting hammer.

However, when I deleted a particular object (square shaped portal floor) the lag went away. Strange.

All fixed now. =]

Hammer is a tad weird. I have a beefy machine (Core i5-2500K, 8GB of DDR3-1600, an Intel X25-M 160GB SSD, HD5870) and yet my maps tend to be a little laggy when moving around (just as in I mean they are smooth as butter like Portal 2 runs) but occasionally the FPS will jump and hammer will render everything super smooth, then the next time I load its back to normal again.

Your core is your lag. AMD Athlon II Dual Core M320 2.1GHz is very slow. Amd Phenom II, Intel i5 are good cores but its possible you need a new motherboard... and much $

Dont buy anything lol.

Intel Core i7 970
GTX 480 oc'd
12gb DDR3 RAM

Hammer average fps is about 5.

Its just hammer, its slow.

"Oh, in case you got covered in that repulsion gel, here's some advice the lab boys gave me: DO NOT get covered in the repulsion gel."

I never have lag problems, and I run on some older specs.
