I'd recommend clipping around the object, but not deleting anything until you've clipped all the way around the object. Then, delete the middle part and you'll have the hole. Also, to keep your clipping from extending across the entire wall, I'd recommend clipping but not deleting a smaller brush around the object.

I see you are new to mapping. But don't ask so many silly questions about simple things. You don't need to carve round holes for doors and funnels. Search youtube for tutorials.
