Best free screen video recorder for Portal/Portal 2

Page 1 of 3Next

Just as the title says. I want a good, free screen recorder for use with Portal and Portal 2, that doesn't take up too much resources. I'd be recording a 1440x900 monitor.

Just a side note: I have the Source Filmmaker, is it possible to use that for recording normal gameplay?

Thanks,

EDIT: Oops, I accidently put this in Portal 2 discussion. I meant to put it in General Off Topic.

The only free screen recorder I've had any luck with is CamStudio, but even that's not so great. See if anyone else has any good suggestions, but you might just have to buy something like Fraps.

WeGame is the only semi--featured free recorder. Anything else you need to purchase.

I'm happy with MSI Afterburner. It's a free graphic cards monitor but comes with a feature to capture videos in whatever resolution or length you want.

The best free recorder for P2 is the source engine.

Open dev console -> type record (name you want the file to have) -> record -> open console a type stop when you're done. Then hunt down the file, its somewhere in either portal2 or portal 2. Then submit to yt or edit in windows movie maker

Wouldn't let me download. Chrome claimed the site didn't exist.

That one looks good... But I can't seem to figure out how to actually start the recording.

This does seem to be the best option. Is there any way to have it not stop recording when you die? Because that's really annoying, having to make a new one each time.

No.

This ha been discussed in at least 2 other threads. This is one example...

I'm using FRAPS (not difficult to get a "free" version of nearly the latest one over there...) and it is capable to record at full size and with very good quality. Check this vid as well.

Well, it seems the concensus here is "get FRAPS", so I guess I'll just have to get FRAPS. After all, $37 dollars isn't really that much, right?

You just need to set a hotkey: http://www.ghacks.net/2011/07/25/captur ... terburner/
