I symbolic-linked my hammer folder and portal2's texture files to my SSD (for faster loading and saving), plus my autosave is 3 minute in hammer. I also ocassionally save my .vmf and the backup .vmx (I save/copy the .vmf upon F9 compile in the compile expert mode as well).
