Advanced Displacement
Quote from BobbyJEL101 on December 5, 2011, 11:06 pmI need a really advanced displacement tutorial for hammer in general. All the ones i've looked at are noobish. I'm ready to start doing some extreme underground maps, but don't have the proper knowledge of displacement, aside from the basics, which are getting me nowhere. Please, i'm on my knees begging, HELP!

Quote from morrock on December 6, 2011, 5:27 amSure, it's basic, but it covers the essentials and that's what's important. With what's covered in that tutorial, you should be able to create complex terrains and underground areas. Design your area with solid pieces, like rooms and corridors, grab walls, displace them to make it more organic.
This room is just a hollowed cube with the inner faces displaced.

Also, decompiling one of the official maps can be very helpful.

Underground theme. Decompiled some valve maps, and know how to incorporate objects into the rock. I just need some tips and stuff like that.

You really do know how to do it! I always wondered how they made those rockwalls...
How do you even do it?

Quote from BobbyJEL101 on December 6, 2011, 1:20 pmAll I did was displace a plane, copy and scale it on the z for the walls, and copy the bottom, for the roof. Then I added a flat wall, and looked how they textured it in the map sp_a3_01 or something like that... I suppose I just have to keep practicing to get it. I just really wanted to see a proper technique
