[WIP] [WIP] Minecraft in Portal 2: The Village

Page 1 of 2Next

Need feedback (the more the better) to proceed*
* - The background music will be added in the last turn.

I need to know is it interesting to play? How long people will be just hang around before understand what they have to do? Or maybe there are some unintended solutions or bugs. Maybe you could offer interesting design solution, puzzle or interesting sound for things which i left without it...I will accept any help

I spent a huge amount of time on making this map, so i want it to be almost perfect, at least without some very stupid and simple issues that i just has missed by accident or by the lack of knowledge.

(since English is not my native language, i can suck in grammar or spelling)

Updated:
Added the 3D skybox
Fixed ladders (as much as i can)

Known problems:
Using save while climbing on the ladders get point_viewcontrol stops while parent entities still moving that causing problem with use of ladders later

File Name: mc_4th_village_updated_2.rar

:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: That was awesome;

Spoiler
I started near the end portal; missing out on the tutorial :p

Other that that... that was awesome! great map!
I even found the freaking hidden secret:P You might make it a tiny bit more visible though; this was mostly pure luck. It took me forever to find the last one:

the ground-floor-level chest in the library.

Also; using

the crafting table
you can climb on the walls in the village; seeing the skybox all exposed. You might want to see if you can change that a bit. But totally awesome!!!

Hi, Timoteeei, wellcome to ThinkingWithPortals.
I can't judge your map strictly since I've never played Minecraft and hardly understand what is what. Anyway I wandered around to see what it is and found out that it's possible to climb up on trees and jump from one to another seeing skybox surrounding your village. And it's rather wierd to have sea all around. I'd suggest to choose another skybox with land instead of the sea and may be rocks on the horizont.

God bless the quick save's inventor...(Portal: Prelude)

Well, f**k... i forgot about that test "info_player_start". Will reupload as fast as i can >__<

.

Missing out the tutorial will lead to a total mess - no tutorial, no plot, no creeper and "night" phase. I'm sorry about that. but I fixed it.

It is intended way to get up onto the smallest house ;) ... or you did it by other way? Please, tell me about it.

About Skybox. Yeah i just didn't finish it because it is the last stage of making

Yes, after some noclipping I found the night village and after noclipping there I found the tutorial. Afer that it made much more sense. ;)

Specially the well was much easier afterwards.

And indeed; I used the trick with the wall to get to smallest house.

And finally a good tip; always playtest before uploading; No matter how tempting it is not to do that ;)

He's already active for a very long time and it's not his first map. ;)

b2T: Hi Timoteeei, do you remember me?! ;)
I don't know if I should help you and test the WIP or it's better to wait and play the final version.
I will not destroy the awesomeness. ^^

What would you say?

Visit me on ? youtube ?

Hello there my old fella, ofcourse i do remember you =) You was one of the first persons who inspired me to start using Hammer for maps creation.

If you really want to enjoy the map, i can give you advice: play it later. That the reason why i posted map here at the first, so no one will have some troubles on the workshop due my negligence or smth.

This was something very different. I've never played minecraft, so I may not have understood some things correctly, but here is my take on the map. It was fun to explore the unique environment. A few things mystified me, though. Once I got out of the tutorial room, something went SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS and then I died; I'm not sure what happened there. There was a silver-colored object at the bottom of the well which I never seemed to need. I sometimes got some weird physics when jumping on or around the cube; I'm not sure if that was intentional or not, but my jump was 2 or 3 times higher than normal.

Some bad things to note: about half the time I tried to climb the ladders, the map would crash. If I was at the top of a ladder, and crouched and pressed 'E', I would get the climbing-the-ladder animation, even though I was already at the top. Like a fool,I jumped down into the fire pit to see what would happen, and I died. Some autosaves would be nice. The tiny doorways got seriously annoying after awhile.

But there were some nice things in this map and I enjoyed it.

The problems of ladders was very frustrating for me. I did not expect that. I fixed the bug with activating climbing when player on the top of ladder. But the other one is very hard to solve. As i noticed, once player activated point_viewcontrol (which i used to emulate a climbing) and then whenever saves by any way (trigger, logic_autosave, quick save button) the viewcontrol entity don't moves as it intended. It was tough but think i managed.
But there is still another problem. Now the same is happening when players try to save while "climbing" (i.e. when point_viewcontrol is active). Is there any way by which i can forbid for players to use a saves for a while? It could help a lot.
