THE 3 WAY PORTAL GUN! [Idea]
Quote from blueflames7 on November 5, 2012, 5:00 pmEarlier I had an idea. Somebody should create the 3 way portal gun! Here's how it would work:
You enter portal 'a'. You go into a room with two other doors/portals. You can go into portal 'b' or portal 'c'.
I don't know how to use hammer or code, so if somebody can help me out with this, or give me some ideas, it would make my day.

Quote from FelixGriffin on November 5, 2012, 5:47 pmThis would definitely require Hammer. It's certainly possible, but it would ruin flings and mess up the instantaneous-transition mechanic.
If I have extra time before the release of the FGEMOD I might make something for this, but it's theoretically pretty simple in Hammer. Make a room with three autoportals on different linkages, make a portalgun on a tank in front of a player to fire the non-standard portals, and use a game_ui.

Quote from nathanle1406 on November 5, 2012, 7:31 pmWhat if entering Portal A took you to Portal B, entering B took you to C, and entering C took you back to A. would add some interesting mechanics. would be difficult to implement though, maybe impossible.

Quote from FelixGriffin on November 5, 2012, 8:48 pmProbably impossible, unless I could use world portals instead of normal ones. I'd need Omni's worldportalgun script.

Meaning one of your portals would always have to be closed.
Perhaps you can make your portals oscillate between them when you press another key? - This may have to involve some vscripting.

Sounds like a better idea than mine, but I just thought of something: other than getting tests done faster, you really can't incorporate this element into a puzzle without it just being an easier way to do a regular one.
If someone could think up how we could make this into a puzzle, it would be helpful.

Oh, and I'm about to use your mod. I saw it yesterday, and I am about to install it.

Scratch that, just noticed it's not done
