Speeding up mapping time

Page 1 of 2Next

If only there was a host_timescale or a player_speedmod for life. I've been spending months trying to produce the level of quality that other mappers claim to have done in half the time. How is this possible? I'm just speculating here, but is there some sort of brush-building technique I haven't found, or a shorcut to modifying entities? Something that speeds up the time a map's in development.

I'm not sure if there are any tips other than the Sniper's, "Be efficient.", although that isn't really a tip. Just practice and you'll get faster.

I think he means short-keys, I have no idea what most of them are apart from Ctrl M which really sped up my prop rotation.

Short-Keys away!

About speeding up mapping: Basicly I think you need three things. Being efficient, (as already stated,) motivation, and planning.

Also, this.

I do most of those things anyway. But I get distracted too easily by the internet :) If there was no internet I would have my maps done in no time.

With that page and that tip, I feel like I could finish the E3 Complete pack tomorrow! (It'll probably be a few months before that, but thanks anyway.)

Yup hotkeys are great... Ctrl M, Ctrl T (convert to entity). Hammer is very good about being a fast way to make maps though. The fine tuning and complex entity linking is the hardest part.

Creating maps is (my personal opionion) something you do in your freetime as hobby. If you got fun on making maps, time is irrelevant. Good maps need time. If you got in your life other things to do than just mapping, you need more time for a good map.

i Looooooove NODRAW.com lol
