Quote from xdiesp on June 17, 2011, 7:52 amComplex and sound on the puzzles' front, I applaud you being this your first map. But very shaky on the mapping side: fix the many minor flaws, and it will make for a very nice Clean style brainer. Here is it:
- These narrow white surfaces are difficult to portal to, centering the shot to perfection. See if you can guide the aiming:
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc123/xdiesp/portal22011-06-1712-54-23-81-1.jpg
- I did not enter these rooms, ever. It may be due to the fact I portaled to the 2 laser rooms by flinging outside.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc123/xdiesp/portal22011-06-1713-15-27-32.jpg
- Assorted misalignments make it look like a Build engine game, look after these and many more:
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc123/xdiesp/portal22011-06-1713-16-16-14.jpg
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc123/xdiesp/portal22011-06-1712-53-30-99.jpg
- I had clicked this button before, making the cube fall in the water. Later when I activated the cube plate, both a bridge and a cube appeared - rendering this button useless.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc123/xdiesp/portal22011-06-1713-16-02-55.jpg
- You don't want this zig zag thing, at least not done with floor like this. Possibly panels?
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc123/xdiesp/portal22011-06-1713-02-47-41.jpg
- Frankly, the timed puzzle is confusing and not necessary. But if you want to keep it: add more clear indications of what's happening (I was thinking I had to rush back to the main room), possibly shorten it. If you don't make this glass higher, people will jump over it making the trip about 50% shorter:
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc123/xdiesp/portal22011-06-1712-54-23-81-1.jpg
A couple of friends I talked to said they had this problem as well, and I tried to fix this problem by playing with the size of the white surfaces. This was at a point where I was largely unaware of how to use info_placement_helpers, which would have probably worked wonders in some of that.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc123/xdiesp/portal22011-06-1713-15-27-32.jpg
I think I see how you could have gotten to the cube without going through those two rooms. This is a problem with the glass. I'll have to adjust the height.
I assume this is what you meant anyways, please correct me if I am wrong.Quote:- Assorted misalignments make it look like a Build engine game, look after these and many more:

I've gotten much better in the two maps I've made since then (haven't released them yet) so this should not be a problem in the future.

Yeah, that one is genuinely my fault. I don't know how to make cubes disappear when they enter the water (like they are supposed to), and if I had know I would have implemented that.

I might possibly change that whole room entirely, seeing as I have more experience with hammer now and can do alot more.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc123/xdiesp/portal22011-06-1713-18-21-78.jpg
That was me being lazy and not wanting to add indicator lights. That probably would have helped there, I admit it now. You're probably right about the timed thing however. I'll see what I can do about the glass thing as well.
I should be able to fix somethings fairly soon. Thanks for the feedback

So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:UFur11-TPX8

Quote from KennKong on January 24, 2012, 6:15 pmThe puzzle had me scratching my head for a while, at first because of me not looking closely for
the hole in the hallway ceiling
, then because
jumping in and out of water without dying
isn't very common (and is usually a mistake by the mapper.)
I'm certain I missed the intended solution, which I felt fairly certain involved
flinging from the angled panel in the lightbridge maze through the panels below
. But I never found a way to raise those panels, so I just jumped across.
EDIT: Since the source was included, I found the button to trigger the panels. Even knowing where it was, I had trouble finding it. Then I solved that part using the intended fling, as you can see here: Triple by .RK
I also never saw a use for the triangle button right before the exit. I heard a timer ticking, but there was no need to do anything but just walk out.
I never used the two small rooms in the corner. You can place a portal to get the cube from the ceiling, or from the top of the glass wall.
This could have been a 4 for the puzzle, but there are too many confusing, useless or broken things. 3/5 from me.
