[SP] There is something inside the walls - Black and White
Quote from PitchBlackShadow on February 24, 2013, 4:52 amThis is my first map.
It is part of a Mappack i make.
Basicly i uploaded this map to get some feedback about the difficulty and visual aspects like the lighting etc. so feel free to leave your comments. The difficulty should be Medium/Hard.
Big thanks to everyone here in the comunity, i would have been nothing without you.
Also i want to especially thank Patox and Neodyme, my Beta-testers.This map contains a lot of custom stuff, also an own loading screen.
To make it work you have to type "restart" into the console after you loaded the map, because the materials are packed into the .bsp.Screenshots:

Quote from Shakky on February 24, 2013, 5:20 pmThis is really impressive map for your first one and it's really well made and innovative. I think the puzzle is still quite unclear and I didn't use some of the given buttons and objects at all.
I never understood how to get rid of the grids covering the faithplates for example.Visually the map is quite straight forward. Waterfalls look nice but personally I don't like using death fields in pits. I would use bottomless pits or goo. Just my opinion. As for the texturing, I'm not a fan of using half block textures. I would recommend making your room's dimensions so that they can be divided by 32. That would make your textures align and avoid getting half blocks on the edges.
Few other things to fix:
-When you take the cube from the top button and the rooms starts changing back it's possible to walk towards the changing wall and get stuck behind it.
-For some reason if you touch the blue gel button twice in a row fast enough the gel gets stuck on.
-On the water wall flowing from the beginning the opening platform trying to prevent you from falling sometimes goes through you and you get stuck for a moment.
-I don't know if it was intentional while playing this map you can't see your crosshair which makes some of the shots quite annoying. Here is my unintended solution vid to help you fix this one:
kvaZzcmHO8A
It has flaws but don't get me wrong. It's not a bad map. It just needs some polishing. Well done!

Quote from quatrus on February 24, 2013, 6:48 pmNever figured out what the faith plates were for, and never got the grids off? The blue gel painting the walls was a bit tedious, at least the way I did it with a funnel. Eventually, the blue gel got stuck ON, not sure what I did - hopping on and off the cube plate shut it off. The cube plate in the upper chamber - also couldn't figure out it's use, it appeared to activate the faith plates, but I couldn't get them to work...? Anyhow, when the white gel started, I painted everything and that allowed me to get up to the exit -turret chamber. The turret chamber was different and getting up on the bridge took a bit of trying - clever...! Nice map for your first effort...Needs a bit more work and some guidance on where to go? thanks for mapping.

I really thought that it becomes obvious that you can not use the faithplates due to the signs i made.
But maybe it is too uncommon,
to use the faithplates to fling white gel on the panel.
I was really afaid that the map becomes quite unclear, since i made a lot of stuff in a realativly small room. Maybe i should just remake the whole fist chamber and make it a lot larger and more organized.
I recognized that the gel is a bit buggy, and i tried to fix this with a logic_branch which is set by the button and a logic_relay that tests the branch a secound after the button was pressed. That seemed to work for me, at least i wasn't able to cause this bug again. Any ideas to solve this another way?
The solution you used in the 2nd chamber Shakky wasn't intended, but you used some kind of ninja trick there.
Rather you have to speed up with orange gel, fling with blue gel upwards and make the lightbridge beneath you.
Do you have any suggestions how to make it more clear where to go?

Quote from quatrus on February 25, 2013, 7:26 pmYou can also get on the bridge
just by simply jumping up on blue gel and crouching while shooting a portal at the far wall
.
You can also get on the bridge
