[SP] The Best of Gig - Vol. 1

Page 1 of 2Next

We took one of the best Gig's puzzles and redesigned them in Hammer. In this recreation of "Archipelago" and "Dovetail" you can enjoy two chambers with extra details while solving puzzles.

Difficulty: It will make you think, but it's not impossible

Puzzle concept: Gig
Re-designing and detailing: Fluppy

Really impressive puzzles! :notworthy: The 2nd chamber took me a REAL while to figure out. I love maps based in portal placement! The detailing is awesome Fluppy, and I also loved the connection between both chambers by the BTS area.

Thanks for creating! 5/5 from me!

Looking forward to Vol. 2

Excellent - puzzle 2 was tough to figure out where to place the laser cube. Thanks for reworking Gig puzzle, visuals were great.

I love it. I FINALLY SOLVED this.
I was stuck on the final chamber for several days.
I would come back to it each night and work on it for another 15 to 30 mins . . . then FAIL.
And repeat the next night.

The old

trick, eh ?? That was very insidious of you - LOL. And I did not see it foer the longest time.

This was a very vexing problem !!!
Excellent -

You Sir are a Genius.
That Chamber was was like an M.C. Escher painting.

Simply ingenious and all interconnected - I would rate it equal to Mevious' hardest map (called "Industrial").

@lifeson99

I'm glad that you enjoyed the map. I would also like to see your solution, because I am not entirely sure what do you mean by:

Could you please record a video or take a screenshot of your solution? :)

Very good map. You made Gig's puzzles even better. Can't wait for volume 2. :)
Here's my playthrough. http://www.twitch.tv/xmeviousx/c/1835138

Thank you for your playthrough - it is 100% intended and it looks like you understand all these extra things I have added in there :) . Have you played Gig's version before this map? May I also know what are your favorite maps made by Gig? I am not sure which of them I should use for Vol. 2 because Gig has a lot of advanced versions of other maps and also some No Elements maps - I can't use these.

Here you are Fluppy - sorry for the delay.
It is a lot faster using the old

I played them both but never solved dovetail before this version. I almost always solve Gig's maps as intended. I go into them with the knowledge that he almost never requires stupid ninja BS in his puzzle maps. So as soon as I find myself doing something odd, I know it's a dead end and look for a different solution. I wish I could play everyone's maps with this piece of mind.

Why not do the advanced maps? I think it would be really cool to see some hammer maps that combine the normal and advanced versions of some of the maps. The player could start off by doing the normal version and then have the chamber change to represent the advanced puzzle. It could be like "Try Anything Twice", my absolute all time favorite map pack.

As for my personal favorites, these are the ones in my favorites list, but that list probably needs updating.
Simplistic
Distribution
A Change of Plans
Monoportal: Bedevil

I think there's also a few made by Gig and Azorae as a team.

Oh wow, I am not sure if I should leave this solution. Whatever, good puzzle should have more ways to finish, but the right one should be the most satisfying. Thank you for your video :)

In this map I was also looking for some tricky solution, but then I realized it's just about keeping your portals.

I like this idea. I would have to ask other people who made original map - mostly Azorae, AD_79 and you. But right now I want to go back to P1 mapping and make a decent map for it (Rexaura inspired me a lot).
