[SP] Security Crisis

Quote from RectorRocks on June 19, 2012, 10:54 pmMy first Portal 2 map!
GLaDOS finds that Wheatley's monitor screen is better than her security cameras, so she decides to use it. This map contains two simple puzzles, a Laser Relay puzzle and a momentum puzzle. Both are required to solve in order to open the exit door. Some mechanics involved:
Laser Relay
Discouragement Redirection Cube
Thermal Discouragement Beam (and its receptacle)
Excursion Funnel
Aerial Faith Plate
Edgeless Safety CubeThis is a map purely made by Hammer (Authoring Tools). I'm new to it so be nice
Leave some comments on what I can improve on in my next map. Don't forget to rate it! If you like it, I might do more next time.

When I was finished I decided to do some noclip exploration.. I flew out of the map and...
It appears you encased your entire map in a box.
NEVER. do that. That can cause huge performance problems. That's probably why I kept getting random lag spikes here and there.I assume you did that to fix leaks. If you have a leak: Go to Map > Load Pointfile and a red line will point you to the leak for you to fix. Don't just put a giant box around your map.
There are also a lot of other common starter mistakes that I won't list.
Overall didn't really enjoy the map. Puzzles weren't too enjoyable. Don't take it the complaints too hard though- everyone, at some point, had a first map.

Quote from Shakky on June 20, 2012, 8:58 amPretty good job for a first map. The puzzle itself is little bit too easy for my taste but you did a good job.
And here are my problems with the map. Always learn from your mistakes.
-Some misaligned textures in the momentum puzzle area
-Flickering textures (2 or more brushes overlapping) on each corner of the glasses and under the spot where glados panel will spawn.
-I would make the panel close when you enter the laser room because now you can get the cubes out to the main area which causes few problems:
a)If you throw a cube into a glass cage it will fizzle but there is no way to get it back.
b)One point of the floor near the entrance fizzles cubes also
c)I'm pretty sure it's possible to throw a cube into the exit laser and complete the map but I got bored trying that.Again these are just possible improvement suggestions. You did so good job you deserve my blindrun:

I hope you continue mapping!

Thanks! I'll improve in my next map! I really appreciate your blindrun. This map is sort of like a introduction so it has really simple puzzles and crappy textures.
Don't worry, I'll still be mapping, I'm working on a set of 48 test chambers for cake.
(Don't worry, its not a lie, I'm not as cruel as GLaDOS)
Problems:
?) Panel closing in Laser Room: Since the Laser Room has no portalable surface, I didn't place a fizzler in there so its impossible to fizzle any cube. I made the glass cage's floor fizzle the balls later on so I forgot create a relay to spawn fizzled cubes. Sorry.a) I'm sure no one would do that because that would be pointless.
b) There are gaps between the walls and the glass so it fizzles too.
c) Who would have thought of that, right?Cheers! Don't forget to rate it!

Quote from quatrus on June 20, 2012, 10:46 amPretty good for a first map. I ran into the laggy issue only after activating the ball drop - repair advice given already.
Nice to see you working in hammer. thanks for creating and I will definitely look for your next map. Ok I'll give a 4/5 even though this one still needs some work...

I too, lag after I activate the ball dropper. I can't seem to fix that in the map, I'll fix it in my next map. My next map is almost done. After all, its still 01/48. Thanks for rating it too! Cheers!

Quote from sicklebrick on June 20, 2012, 4:26 pmHeh, cheers for that
Was a little straightforward but fun anyways. I managed to get the relays lit up with just 3 cubes in the hopes I could use the fourth for mischief, but you beat me to it >.<
