Quote from KennKong on November 29, 2011, 2:33 pmI hadn't played the prior versions of this map, so I don't know what exploits are protected against in this one. The puzzle was fairly well-designed, and the look was simple. I think a little variation in textures around some of the openings would have helped me see the solution a little better. Also, the sections in the middle of the lights looked like portal material but weren't.
While the puzzle design was good, the execution was a bit dissappointing. I needed a few restarts to get past the lightbridge, and several attempts to hit the funnel on the fly. You need to think about providing a way to get unstuck from the funnel (perhaps a small platform under the emitter?)
Even so, I liked the "tricky" puzzle elements. Thanks to Jonatan and Nystrke, I have grown accustomed to
avoiding fizzlers while carrying cubes
, otherwise I would have been stuck for a while. The
drop and catch cube
trick is one I particularly like because I enjoy moving things around without carrying them. That one was a little tough to pull off playing with a controller, but I can make it on the first attempt more often than not.
Usually, a map in which I use a lot of quick loads gets a 3 from me, but this one actually makes me want to go back and perfect it, so I'll give it 4/5. All this map needs to get a 5 is some ambience: music and GlaDOS goading you along.
EDIT: Having read the comments from prior versions, I disagree with some posters about the laser relay not being necessary. I think the laser going across the room is a clear indication that you need to get up there and do something.

This version feels more tidy and more directive overall as to the path to follow. I think it actually makes it easier, especially with the access to
the second cube
, however it is difficult to judge when one has already played the old one. I am a bit sad that my unintended solution of
stealing one of the reflector cube
is superfluous now, as it gave them more than one role in the story, but, hey, you're free to do what you want!

Quote from greykarel on December 4, 2011, 5:36 pmAbout version 4. Something is wrong with the lightbridge and laser relay. It disappears when I
jump onto in off the funnel in the final to return to the first area
as I was trying to record video.I shut down FRAPS it didn't work either. Before when I found the solution and finised the map it worked allright. Also laser got off sometimes when I crossed the first fizzler leaving the lightbridge (I guess when crossing while the cube crosses the beam).
EDIT. If I jump off the funnel to the left the bridge disappears when I land it, while to jump off to the right works fine.
Version 4 video.
I cut off the initial part for it is just the same as in prior versins and left a bug with the lightbridge and laser relay.Though in the final the laser got off anyway.
hNzh87Sp9g4
Quote from PCdoc on December 9, 2011, 11:40 amThe bug is not that the
light bridge disappears when you drop down from the funnel
. That was intended in my opinion. The bug is that it stays in place if you drop to the right.
There had to be a reason for the long
white strip of panels behind the screens. They allow you to cross without touching the might bridge by using the blue funnel to press you against the wall
.
Anyway - this took me forever to complete because of that one trick of
knocking the cube off the button by dropping the other cube onto it's corner.
If you do not know that (and no one does) then when you place the
first cube initially you place it square on the button and will never get it off.
So when you figure that out you have to backtrack and redo it.

But it is at least strange. The bridge is activated by laser beam and it is ON or OFF.So why it all should get off if I just jump on the bridge?
May be it would have been better if the author had made all the lasers disactivated when a player switched over laser in the upper room. That would have eliminated the confusion with the bridge and prompted a player to search for the intended solution.

Quote from TaiMai on February 29, 2012, 4:25 pmI just wanted to say I really enjoyed this map. Great level of challenge and brain power required but never to frustration levels. I would put this one right up there with Silic's Your Choice and Damagespy's maps as my favorite custom maps so far. Easy 5/5!
I tried your first map, and after being very proud of myself for
doing the crazy acrobatics required to get the second cube (with a controller nonetheless), I got frustrated by the tower in the next room.
I'm going to go have another crack at it now. I can't wait to try some of your other maps as well. Keep up the good work.

Quote from co0op on March 13, 2012, 11:36 amJust played through this with a friend and it was a splendid experience. It took about an hour, and yes, there were a couple of quick loads needed, but it never got frustrating.
BTW, you don't have to drop the second cube onto the first to remove it from the funnel direction changing button. You can simply put the second cube in the upper red funnel, jump down and remove the cube from the button. Now you have to walk through the fizzler when the cube in the upper funnel is directly above the lower funnel. Stand on the button again to direct the cube towards the start of the funnel so you have enough time to run to the button disabling the fizzler in front of the portable wall. Now you just have to repeat a few earlier steps and you can reach the exit easily.
Brilliant medium-hard map! 5/5.
Thanks for mapping!
