[PTI] Verticular Faith
Quote from SkyFerret on June 21, 2012, 5:45 pmThe seventh installment to the Verticular series. It's all about aerial faith plates to navigate your way vertically through multiple levels to reach the exit. In this puzzle, there are plenty of faith plates to keep things interesting. Some parts of the puzzle require shooting on the fly. Other elements include lasers, tractor beams and some turrets. I'm sure you'll find it quite fun as well.

Quote from sicklebrick on June 22, 2012, 9:49 amYay, moar verticulars!
Cheers, this one was pretty good too; it felt much like the others with all the backtracking and planning your next couple of jumps, etc. Little easier than the last, but still fun. Ty

TyThanks, I'm glad you like it. I think I've covered all elements so far in the series. No wait, light bridges? Hmmmmm, maybe.

Quote from SkyFerret on June 22, 2012, 10:25 amDiversity vents, that would be fun. I'd have to start learning to use Hammer. I've been thinking about it now and then, but the PTI editor is so easy to use. One of these days I might try it. As for just portalable panels and such, perhaps I could call it Verticular Standard.

Quote from RogerL on June 23, 2012, 12:56 amI thought this was a pretty nice puzzle, but there was one section I really did not like. The area where you bounce around on a series of three (four?) faithplates and have to shoot a portal in the perfect position to activate the panels was tedious and, very quickly, annoying. I would like to suggest either adding some portal placement helpers or narrowing the section of portable surfaces there. Other than that, I thought it was challenging and quite fun to play.

This is the first time I've used this type of difficulty in the said manner. I would not be the first to do so of course. When I first play tested it, I nailed it on the first shot. The next time I play tested it, it took me 3 tries to get it. I understand it can be tedious, but keep in mind that player skill can often be dictated by the degree of patience one would have. Some players may laugh at the fact it took them 5 tries to get it, whereas some could easily get frustrated at the first misfire. At least with this puzzle, it's not "get killed" if you miss. So to be honest with you, those are my frustrating dislikes towards a puzzle, and I would not build one as such. The degree of preference towards how challenging a puzzle can be varies from one player to another. Do keep in mind that your opinion is noted as well as welcomed.
Cheers.

Quote from RogerL on June 23, 2012, 3:12 pmI think I made a little over a dozen rounds, firing three to four portals per round. I guess I just have bad luck with such things.

Quote from SkyFerret on June 23, 2012, 3:52 pmWell sir, they way I see it is that if I can do it (in 3 to 4 rounds), so can you. The method I use is to immediately face towards it. Meaning that as soon as you jump on the first faith plate, turn towards the targeted area. As well as side to side mouse movement, it probably takes very steady up and down movement which would be the primary focus on accurate targeting. This probably means you would have to completely ignore the fact that you are traversing a set course from on plate to another, and pay no attention to it because it will guide you on the set course without falling into the goo pond. Also, the difference between using left or right click to shoot could make a difference in what you're more comfortable with. Sorry for being long winded, but I'd rather see someone improve their skills (which would make future gameplay a better experience) instead of giving up.
