[PTI] Boost

The fourth map in the Minimalism series once again sees test subjects using Repulsion Gel to get where they need to be.

I wasn't really planning on making another addition so soon but I got inspired by the response to 'Almost...' and ended up creating this quite quickly. As always, it's a small, one-puzzle PTI map scrubbed up in Hammer to resist exploits and look nice and fancy. If the reception of the other three instalments is anything to go by, it's also probably quite hard....

v1.1 - Thanks to greykarel for the vid - fixed a huge oversight that let the puzzle be solved in an unexpected way.

Hi, El. Good map but not that hard, may be because I've played other Minimalism maps before. Thanks for your work.

greykarel - thanks for the vid, excellent solution. Obviously I was a bit tired when doing the final playtesting and adding those timers, as that didn't occur to me at all... Have updated the map as it shouldn't be quite so easy.

So yeah, congratulations on solving the map! Now, if you wouldn't mind solving it again....

EDIT: Ha, on another playthrough just now I finished it without using the gel at all. Brain must have been real tired when I made it. Hopefully all is good now.

This is the first Minimalist map that I've tried. Extract the archive to portal 2/portal2.

Oh, my previous solution turned out to be unintended. What a pity.
Here is another one I guess unintended too. Though it can be easily fixed with a couple of placement_helpers

Whew, thanks for those solutions guys! Seems I released this one a bit too early - I should know by now that gel puzzles need a ridiculous amount of playtesting.... Still, I can't believe I didn't see Xtreger's solution; I added the timers late in the development of the level and obviously didn't playtest nearly enough afterwards. As for greykarel's second vid - you seem to be getting a little more height than I can manage with that trick; is that something to do with your super-late blue portal shot?

Anyway, I've finally updated the map; also managed to find a couple of workaround solutions to stop the paint creeping under the glass, which always kind of annoyed me... Apologies for releasing in clearly an unready state. Hope it's okay now.

Another solution, extract similarly... (Unfortunately demo playback is a pain for PTI)

Nice, that was quick! That's actually the intended solution, pretty much, although you made it kind of hard for yourself with the execution...

Anyway, thanks a lot for playing and taking the time to make a demo!

It's actually fine as long as the author (or whoever wants to see the demo) has actually subscribed to the map; it would probably be better if you were automatically subscribed to your own, though.

Took me a while because I thought the timer had something to do with the solution - but no.
Spent 30 mins pondering that %$#@# timer.

Spoiler
I splashed blue gel on both floor and ceiling. Floor is easy - ceiling I used the 2-portal method where you get the gel flowing straight down through both bortals and it speeds up - then shoot the ceiling portal somewhere else on the floor and the gel flies up fast.

Shot portals so laser removed fizzler (after the useless delay timer) - went to other room, crouched and shot blue portal in ceiling from 2nd room into first room (right into the blue gel on ceiling).
Then shot orange portal in floor of 2nd room, dropped down - and immediately shot blue portal into floor several feet away so I did the old bing-boing-bing-boing up and down bounce.

That sped me up - finally, with speed now fast - shot blue portal in floor and shot up high through orange portal in 2nd room - then shot blue portal over next to exit door.

Hope this was intended - but I have my doubts due to the laser timer not having any use at all.

The timer on the gel is to make it easier to paint the room, as otherwise the gel would turn off as soon as you moved a portal under it. The timer on the fizzler is to prevent the player from quickly running round and painting the other side while the paint is running. Sorry, I thought that would be obvious; I'll see if I can do something to make it clearer.

Your solution is 100% intended, by the way!
