Portal Cleanser Texture?
Quote from shawy89 on September 6, 2011, 11:49 pmHi, I'm currently making my first Portal 2 map and could use some help.
For part of my puzzle, I need to use a 'Portal Cleanser', an Emancipation Grill that doesn't destroy cubes. Now, I know full-well how to make this, but I can't seem to find a good texture to use that makes it obvious to the player that it won't fizzle their cube.
I've got a good few regular grills in my map that DO fizzle cubes so I need to differentiate between the 2. Also, I really can't make it invisible as I think for this puzzle the player really need to be aware they're losing their portals. It's not just between rooms, it's mid-puzzle.
I've seen a map that used the Portal 1 style emancipation grills, I think that would be good but I cannot find it. Or can anyone suggest anything else?
Any help appreciated, thanks.

Quote from spongylover123 on September 7, 2011, 12:08 am1) for TRIGGER_PORTAL_CLEANSER fizzling portals and NOT cubes is to uncheck "PHYSICS OBJECTS" in the FLAGS sections
2)different textures for the portal cleanser is to just use a trigger texture,
(remember the test chamber with the companion cube and to get an achievement to bring the companion cube to the elevator, but the companion cube gets fizzled when in the elevator? Well, VALVE used an invisible texture to only destroy cubes)
In other words you can use any texture for the TRIGGER_PORTAL_CLEANSER if you can pass through it (e.g invisible or trigger)Portal 1 version of emacipation grills?
Check and try this:

I think it still worksHope this helps

Quote from iWork925 on September 7, 2011, 9:11 amYou seemto have only just skimmed over his post. He knows how to create it, he needs help implementing it into his puzzle.
My suggestion would to have a normal fizzler and a hole next to it only just big enough for the cube, say 32x32. The player can put the cube through the hole (so it's not fizzled) and walk through the fizzled and the portals are cleansed. I HIGHLY recommend NOT creating invisible or portal only fizzles as it will confuse the player. It also looks cheap and nasty.

Quote from shawy89 on September 7, 2011, 10:50 amThanks for the suggestion but I don't think that would work because part of my puzzles involves painting the cube in blue gel, therefore putting it through a hole could cause it to bounce into the grill and fizzle it.
Basically, I want to player to put blue gel into a funnel which then get put under the cube dropper, dropping the cube into the funnel with gel, and painting the cube (to bounce out from the laserfield next to the dropper). But I quickly realised the funnel was totally unnessesary and the player could just use the surface for gel and skip the funnel.
I think I've got a way around it just using a regular grill, which involves the player having to jump over the grill with the cube.
I'm hoping to release the map as a WIP this week or start or next as the 1st room is pretty much done and the 2nd room shouldn't take long as it's very small and I know exactly what's going in it. Just need to get working on the 3rd and final room.

Quote from shawy89 on September 7, 2011, 5:52 pmThanks. Hopefully you can help me test it in the WIP stage. I've tried to tailor it towards the hardcore player and have adopted some puzzles mechanics I've never seen implemented before! (And I've played a lot of custom maps!)
