Pakrat

So I only have one thing to pak into my .bsp: a texture. So I clicked Add and added both my .vmt and .vtf. But they both appear blue and their box isn't checked...something tells me that they're not going to be pakked.

I also don't understand the scan feature...it seems to me that all it's doing is pakking a bunch of materials and models that everyone (who owns the game) should already have. I'm sure I'm misunderstanding it though.

Help with this will be appreciated.

Hit "SAVE" and it'll pak them. The blue name means it isn't in the BSP yet.

The Scan feature works great if it is properly set up ;) Make sure that you have entered the correct game directory path in that upper window when you hit the Scan button. It is also very recommendable that you do in File > Preferences > Game Root Directory.

The colour codes are:

- Red: yet to be added (not into the .BSP yet)
- Blue: Added but .BSP pending to be saved.
- Green ("In Pak"): custom content already into the .BSP and well saved.

Thanks...but what does it do?

It is the most powerful feature of this little app ;) It scans what files are needed to be added into your .BSP automatically. This will save you from adding manually each of your custom textures files for example.

There will be only some files you'll need to add manually:

- Some textures for custom models: only those version 7.2 + (remember that Portal2 uses v7.5 texture files). Models will be added though automatically.
- Particles
- Scripts
- Some sound files.

Don't even bother with particles, they won't work.

Ok, well I only have one custom texture that's added so I don't need to use it?

You mean the Scan feature? if it's already in, you don't need to use it... but if you do, you'll check if it really is into your .BSP, it'll appear the words "In Pak" in green colour.

Yes it has In Pak next to them in the Scan. Thanks for the help.
