Quote from CamBen on February 27, 2012, 6:31 pmOk, I recently made a few textures for my map and I was wondering, how do I make a water texture?
I want the water to be sorta blueish w/ foam, like an ocean, but I don't know how to make it act like water! plz help!

I think in terms of boolean variables. Generally, it makes things easier.

Or steal some.
Quote from Lpfreaky90 on February 27, 2012, 9:24 pmI read a very interesting article *somewhere* where it was explained how valve created all the liquid textures in portal 2. It had to do with a lot of stuff, like realistic flow around objects. But I cannot seem to find it.
The main thing with water textures is that they have a so-called flowmap. This is an RGB- colored image that actually tells the liquid where it has to flow.
They have a normalmap, to make it look more fancy.
So creating a custom water texture is a very very complicated process, much harder then creating a normal textureSo if you want an ocean-like texture I'd go for ChickenMobile's suggestion: Just steal one from HL2

There are some good textures that you can use for Portal2 (even though they were originally created by the author for CS) and also a good tuto making some textures (these ones are waterfall textures... also available and running good in Portal2!). I hope that you can learn some!
