Help me with my first map, please.

I would like some help with my first chamber. I'm taking things slowly, and I can't make levels myself yet, so please don't laugh at me when I say the only thing I have are incredibly crudely (Crudely being the key word) designs. Also an explanation of how to beat the level for clarification. please help.

Edit: I want this in portal 2

What sort of help are you looking for exactly? Advice on how to build it?

I suggest you start playing around in the editor, learn how to do basic things like make buttons and doors. There are some great tutorials available on YouTube. The best way to learn is to do, and as you play with different things you'll figure out how to build your map.

Good luck.

Heya, like Marise has said the best way to do this is to learn in Hammer. The more practice the more skills you can transfer onto your map.

This guy has some wonderful beginner tutorials for Portal 2 SDK. That is where I got started off.

EDIT: Forgot to mention there are loads of tutorials on the Valve Developer Wiki.

I looked at your proposed puzzle. It's very straightforward and does not really challenge the player.

Try to think of a more creative way to solve the puzzle.

I found that the Skwitt gaming tutorials had a lot of problems and although the methods he used worked, they were often much harder or not as good as other methods. Check out this YouTube channel

I concur with the above recommendation. SolarChronus has succinct but very useful tutorials.
