Hammer randomly crashing apon startup
Quote from Ryanw2ooo on June 24, 2012, 7:35 pmHello. Recently I've been trying to use hammer, but it randomly crashes when I try to work on any brushes and such. It only started happening yesterday when I got a mod called Aperture Ireland, It needed to port files from Hl2 and Portal 1. I chose the amximalist option, porting all files and VPKing them. It told me to rebuild the scenes.image, so I did, and after that i tried to use hammer but it crashed when I tried to work on my map. I thought it was a glitch so I rebooted my system but the problem still occurs.

Help would be greatly apperciated.
Thanks.

Quote from Skotty on June 24, 2012, 8:24 pmSince the last update I have random freezes while opening the "Open File" window. Moth has a similar problem, but for him it's the "Save File" window. Seems like the new Hammer version has some very little bugs.

Quote from josepezdj on June 25, 2012, 9:02 amOK so then I'm not the only one... I've been doing much hammer the whole weekend and hammer crashed when I was attempting to load a map file: the window froze right before even showing the default folder content. I veriffied the integrity of the local files and BAM! 23 files to recover!... Never happened that to me before... only 2-3 files... Weird. This freezing happened 2 times in the whole weekend though.

Quote from Lpfreaky90 on June 25, 2012, 9:11 amI've had the open error too, validating also provided me with 23ish files. It did reduce the crashes quite a bit. And validating the files shouldn't cause you to lose any files =D

Quote from josepezdj on June 25, 2012, 9:17 amYes Felix, you shouldn't bother about that. You won't lose any custom stuff or your maps... Indeed, I decided quite some time ago to uninstall the authoring tools and reinstall them for which I backed up all my materials and custom instances; well, after uninstalling-reinstalling, ALL my custom stuff were right there in the same place... So it only removes its own files, respect the rest into its folders

It just happened to me again when I was trying to load a map, but even before I could choose any one to load. The strange was that I verified the integrity of the local files and all of them was OK. But the most strange is that, after forcing it to close and reopen it again, it appears the typical warning message that you have when you are into hammer with an open map, it crashes and then it tries to load the autosave file of that map you had open. But I didn't even have time to open it!
