Hammer/Puzzle Maker conflict?

Hello all

I am having big problems with Puzzle Maker and Hammer. Allow me to describe the process, and the bugs it generates:

Create map in puzzle maker. Compiles/publishes/saves fine.
Open in Hammer, opens fine. Do not edit or save or modify the chamber in any way.
Return to puzzle maker, open again - opens fine.
Compile again - get black screen with nothing visible, sound of character continuously falling.

At this point I thought OK maybe I just shouldn't use Hammer at any point if I want to go back into Puzzle Maker. However....

Make world's simplest chamber in Puzzle Maker. Compile - when the map loads up there are big graphical glitches - many entities/textures don't render/don't render properly and the character is glued to one corner of the map. Looking around some nearby textures 'warp' and move.

This has happened twice. The first time, I verified game cache integrity and it allowed me to compile new chambers, but the lighting was totally wrong; everything was extremely bright. I reinstalled Portal 2 (and the authoring tools) and this fixed the problem. Obviously I can't keep doing that though.

My system:

Windows 7, 64 bit.
Intel i7-2600K
ATI Radeon 5700 series (forget which)
8 Gb RAM

If anyone can help I would massively grateful - I really enjoy mapping but cannot!

Cheers.

Try checking the cache integrity yet?

And yes, when I delete indicator lights in hammer, I fall in that black endless space. I can hear my puzzle elements working, but I cant see them. >-<

As I said:

The first time, I verified game cache integrity and it allowed me to compile new chambers, but the lighting was totally wrong; everything was extremely bright. I reinstalled Portal 2 (and the authoring tools) and this fixed the problem. Obviously I can't keep doing that though.

After verifying game cache integrity I get 21 errors which it resolves.

After verifying tool cache integrity (authoring tools) I get 18 errors which it resolves.

Go to the console and type "mat_fullbright 0".

First of all: the reason why you spawn in black and hear whoosing noises is because you are spawning outside the playable area. Insert a spawn point and it should be fine.

Secondly: the reason why the lights may be unusually bright is because you are not doing a full compile, only a Normal Normal Normal one. You will have to add extra parms in vrad through expert mode in order to do a final complete compile. (-final -both -textureshadows -StaticPropLighting -StaticPropPolys)
