Quote from protoborg on November 2, 2011, 5:31 pmAnyone ever notice how some people seem to think bouncing through a Portal 2 level gets them through it faster? Well, that drives me nuts so I have decided to make all future levels bounce proof. What this means is that if you attempt to bounce your way through my levels you WILL die. I achieve this by placing a trigger_hurt at just above the height of the player character throughout the level, except where flings and puzzles require the player to leave the ground. This is just my way of telling people to stop freakin' bouncing around as they play through Portal custom levels! It also prevents people from cheating by bouncing over under and around the "correct" solution to the puzzle. Once I have completed a level I will upload it here for everyone to play and enjoy. Just remember that you cannot bounce through it.

Quote from spongylover123 on November 2, 2011, 5:44 pmYou don't need to make a thread about it.
P.S when your map has repulsion gel, and bounce everywhere, you will die then
P.P.S Also you don't need to bounce to make a speed run, and a bounce is like about 50 units high in hammer.

Quote from Spam Nugget on November 2, 2011, 10:50 pmIf you can jump over the correct soloution, your map isnt very well thought out. Just saying. And it is faster to jump than to walk in a straight line. And seriously, who cares if people jump in your map? Yes it annnoys you, but do you plan on sitting behind eeveryone who plays your map and wtching them?

I think in terms of boolean variables. Generally, it makes things easier.

You can't see them, but I can assure you that there are invisible spikes on the ceiling that will instantaneously kill you because this building's architect got really pissed that you were going slightly faster than your normal walking speed."

Quote from Vordwann on November 2, 2011, 11:26 pmAlso, I wouldn't have any fun if:
A. I'm playing a map and I decide to press [space] ... oh... nvm i'm dead.
B. I have absolutely no freedom of movement vertically... Unless your map is perfectly flat you WILL run into problems with this jumping off a ledge down to the ground... oh i fell through the trigger_hurt and died...
And I agree with Spam Nugget. Your map is DEFINATELY not well thought out if you have to do this. There are no custom maps that do this to control the player.

Quote from Mevious on November 2, 2011, 11:38 pmI can't tell if OP is trolling, but just in case...
Instant unexplained death is one of the worst ways to change a player's behavior. In fact, the idea of forcing players to behave a certain way will lead to a miserable experience, and everyone will dislike your map because of it. Players want the freedom to explore and play around in maps without worrying what the map's author thinks, and any map author that forces their "correct" way of playing portal on the player is just plain naive.
I personally jump around while walking, not to gain speed, but just for something to do while moving around. Like others have said, if this is your way of enforcing the indented solution to a puzzle then your puzzle isn't well planned. If you want players to not be able to gain speed and make a jump that they shouldn't, then make the gap wider. If you want people to not be able to skip a timed puzzle by gaining speed, then make the correct solution take less time and shorten the timer. If you just want players to slow down then... I really don't know what to say to that. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Mwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!That made me laugh.
P.S I recommend to just leave your map alone, speed runners are speed runners, bunny hopping is not a way to gain speed, except in portal, all speed glitches are patched in portal 2

Quote from ChickenMobile on November 3, 2011, 4:41 amAs a person who likes to bunnyhop I find this outrageous. I do it almost automatically in any source game and if I find myself playing your level I would die within 2 seconds of spawning (that would be frustrating).
I don't see why you would want to prevent it though. Bunnyhopping will have no effect on the way you solve the puzzle as only good speed runners can actually get any speed from jumping like that (in Portal 2). See my friend's videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/KingpinSYD?feature=watch
