[Coop] Jammed v.2.0
Quote from Zim808 on January 15, 2012, 3:04 pmThis is My first coop map. It took about 2 days to make. But i put some good effort into it! I also made this map for the CoopCrowd! This map is a medium sized map that requires you to be alone, but still work together. How will you do it? (v.1)

mp_coop_JammedHello there!
It's always nice to see more coop maps!
Two days to create a map might seem much, but it isn't. A friend of mine told me that a good map takes around 60 hours, and sometimes a lot more. I liked some of the detailing, specially blue's part. the small cubes rotated in the water really look nice. There are however also some complaints:
* This isn't a medium sized map. It only has one/two puzzles, and they're really easy.
* The first time we played I was orange and I didn't see that the button opened the dropper for blue, so I flinged to the end, only to get blue stuck and there was no way we could undo that. Possibly use indicator lights and some other methods to make it more obvious that you have to wait.
* The portalable surface for blue (above the walkway) is way too small. You have to be straight under it, aim perfectly to get the portal, please make it bigger and use an info_placement helper
* Orange's part is full of vertex textures that constantly flicker and almost let you get a seizure. Please replace those textures with their non-vertex counterparts. All in all it's an ok first map, but there are still a lot of small mistakes which just adds to a map that isn't good (yet).
So for now it's a 2/5, cute, you tried to map.Don't be discouraged by this, feedback is the best way to improve your mapping skills and if you update these things and maybe add another puzzle or maybe two, I'd be happy to play it again and give new feedback

Quote from Zim808 on January 16, 2012, 10:16 amIt's totally fine! As I said, It is my first map. And its only v.1! I am already working on v.2.0! So the more constructive comments I get, the better map it's gonna be. I don't want to give anything away, but in v.2.0, there is gonna be more INTERACTION. I will probably add different versions of the map. I am also NOT gonna fix everything at once. I am going to be working on them throughout all of the versions! So in the next update, if u (or any other people) see something. Leave a comment or just wait until v.2.5! Until this map gets stale, I will keep working on it! (And making it better). Plus, I just wanted to get something out there! I will work on most of your ideas, and most of others. If u see any other problems in v.1, please comment right away! Thanks for all of your ideas! - Zim808

Quote from baca25 on January 19, 2012, 5:59 amfirst bit of advice. There is a way to edit your previous upload, so that you don't have to create another release of your map. So don't double post the same map. You used a lot of vertex textures in your map. That is what are causing your textures to flicker black and change colors. Don't use vertex textures. The difficulty of the puzzle was also really easy, didn't need to put too much thought into it. There are a lot of other things I could pick apart, but I realize this is probably your first map. So just keep working with hammer, study what other people do to their maps and you will get the hang of it. For instance just go into one of the games maps and stare at every wall in the room and look at the complexity of just a simple wall.
