Co-op Airlock/Checkpoint Issues

Page 1 of 2Next

So you know how in some Co-op maps there is that checkpoint room where both bots must be inside that room in order to proceed into the next test chamber? I'm using an instance (instances/multiplayer/two_player_airlock.vmf) so players will respawn in the checkpoint room after dying, but it seems to freeze whenever I get involved with that instance. I have a trigger to open the glass panels for the instance, but triggering that causes the game to freeze up. I looked on the Mapping Wiki, and there is no information about the Airlock/checkpoint room. Even noclipping into the instance causes freezing. Any ideas?

I have no idea about the instance, sounds like a very weird problem to me. What I usually do is using a cubedropper with modified triggers and two info_coop_spawn at the top, one red team and one blue. I give them the same name so I can easily enable and disable them. Just remember you have to disable your first spawn to be sure to spawn at the new location. :) I also remember using a wrecked one of those spawnroom instances and I didn't experience any problems..

A: Use an instance people have so kindly made for the community to use. (Mine definitely works, I used it the other day).

Well, oddly enough, I was able to fix it. I replaced the "???" with names and it worked properly. But I find it weird that there wasn't any information about it on the Portal 2 Mapping Wiki, and the fact that replacing the "???" fixed it.

Crazy is as crazy does.

Thanks so much for this thread. I couldn't find out was was causing the problem. What should I put the names as? Do all the ??? need to be changed? Thanks.

Yes they do. Those are meant as placeholders. ALL instances are somewhat unstable if you don't give names wherever you see "???". Therefor, it is always best to replace them with something you can easily remember.

Wow! That was...uh, yeah. Just, yeah.

No.

Instances also can have default values. So if there is an ??? it is NOT always a must to be replaced.

I guess the best solution is to make my own instance, or spend a lot of time trying to understand how Valve's instance work. Thanks.

I would prefer to make own instances. Because (of my opinion) are some instances from valve messed up or not very optimizable. Also i think its better to make custom things instead of copy things from valve :D
