Changing player character/model in PTI created map
Quote from Klofkac on August 29, 2012, 5:10 amHello, I made a map in PTI and whated to change character from Ben to someone else..
I tried to use client command changemodel connected to logic_auto, but in-game when I was moving, the player was "sliding" and portal gun was not in its hand..
Is there ever possibility to have another character when playing PTI? If yes, how to do so?

Quote from FourthReaper on August 29, 2012, 5:25 amWhen I changed the player model to a black Atlas I first had to change it to P-Body and then change it to Atlas to get the portal gun right. Not sure why, but that was some loophole somebody found once I believe. So I recommend doing the same for your player.
As for the sliding movement, I've noticed the same and can't help you with that, sorry. Kinda' bugs me too.

Quote from Klofkac on August 29, 2012, 10:07 amHmm, I'm wondering if Bendy is default for all workshop maps or it is set via PTI entities, because I haven't submitted purely hammer map, yet...
Anyways, thanks for tip, I'll use it for my next map.

Quote from HMW on August 29, 2012, 3:41 pmBendy is the default for all Workshop maps, regardless of how they are made. The game itself switches to some kind of different "mode" when you play workshop maps. It's the same mechanism that fills in the chamber sign with the map number, title and hazard icons.
I have changed the model back to Chell in my yet to be released map and I haven't noticed any feet sliding. I'll have a closer look some time.
Edit: Wow, that actually looks pretty bad! How the hell did I miss that?
It does get fixed if you set sv_use_bendy_model (or something like that) to 0, but that only takes effect after restarting the map...
I guess the models use different names for their animations. Time to decompile those suckers and see what those differences are...

Bad for customization, good for performance.
If I'm right that is a shame, really.

Oh i just noticed that in one of your maps and thought it was a bug lol. You should change it to chell or bendy, the robot moving sound then silence when you're walking kind of bugs me.

Really? I heard people say it was a nice touch, and I humbly agree with them. Besides that it's for story purposes, and I severely dislike being Bendy. Chell is a campaign thing, so I don't want that either. I'm honestly surprised it annoys you, though maybe you have effect sounds at a higher volume or something?

I liked it. I've never had problems with character animation, or sound effects with PTI maps.

Quote from HMW on September 1, 2012, 3:22 pmAfter some more experimenting, I discovered something interesting: apparently, you can fix the sliding feet problem if you change the model once before the player gets the portal gun, and again after. The first change makes sure that the correct walking animations get loaded, and the second one fixes any weird gun holding problems.
I included a few instances to demonstrate it. To use these, do the following:
- Select the one for the character you want, and place it in your map. (They're not boxed in; just put them in one of the other nodraw boxes you undoubtedly already have lying around.)
- Arrange things so that the player gets the portal gun exactly 1 second after the map starts. That way, you get one model switch without portal gun, and one with it.
I'm not sure how reliable this method actually is across different computers, due to the delicate timing of everything. Also, to test it properly, you must upload your map to the workshop, otherwise it won't start with Bendy and you will not discover any Bendy-related issues.
If you try this, please let us know how it works out!
