Can't run maps[NEW INFO]
Quote from Portal Gun on October 10, 2011, 12:17 pmI have run maps before but now I cant. but only if I make new maps.If I load an old map that would run then edit it and overwrite the save then I can run it but if I make a new map from scratch and save it it wont run.
in the launcher screen it says entity [entity name] Leaked!
then at the bottom it says
LoadPortals: Couldn't load [map file location]
the weird thing is that at the end of the [cant load file] it says the file is in a .prt format but I saved it as a .vmf because that is the only choice I have for what to save it as.

Quote from Portal Gun on October 10, 2011, 1:02 pmI think I may have solved it. All I did was add the rest of the walls and a ceiling so it was completely covered and now it works.

Quote from Rubrica on October 10, 2011, 1:05 pmNO. You never ever ever cover your map in a box, and that's what it sounds like you're doing.
If, however, you simply meant you closed a room that was previously open to the void, then sorry; I just had to make sure I'd drilled that down your throat. Now then, I'd recommend you look at the page on the VDC discussing leaks; it doesn't sound like you're too familiar with them, and you should be; they're you BEST friend. Not. Also, the .prt file is something completely separate from the .vmf file; don't worry about it too much.

Quote from Portal Gun on October 10, 2011, 4:39 pmwhat do you mean by not build a box around it. are you saying like do not make a giant hollow box around the entire map but still having some open rooms?

Quote from Rubrica on October 10, 2011, 5:03 pmYes, we are; you must NEVER do that. It causes all the problems a leak causes but without the leak itself.

Quote from Portal Gun on October 10, 2011, 5:12 pmexactly what problems do leaks cause? just being able to trap your player because if you fall there is no way back up?
exactly what problems do leaks cause? just being able to trap your player because if you fall there is no way back up?

I think in terms of boolean variables. Generally, it makes things easier.
