12 Angrier Tests?

Page 1 of 2Next

So... yesterday, thanks to lpfreaky90, I had the thought that it might be good for me to learn more about cooperative play / make a co-op map pack.

So, first order of business: should it be called 12 Angrier Tests(or something similar) and be connected to the 12 Angry Tests map pack? I was thinking that fat turret wife could be the wife of the defective turret. And she cant find her husband and blames P-body and Atlas. Or it could be connected in some other way.
OR! I just do some other little map pack, like Two and a Half Robots or some shit that wouldn't take forever to make.

Which brings us to the second order of business: You people. If Im gonna do this I need some help. Most importantly someone to do a voice for the antagonist.(And if I go with the wife idea, presumably a lady), but I guess one could make some really awesome stuff if some texture/model/audio/anything - person would like to help too.

And the final order of business: Time. I am probably not gonna have as much spare time as I had for the 12 Angry Tests. Which means, either I make a smaller map pack(<12 frikkin puzzles) OR it takes a long time until its done OR I get even more help, like someone to do the visuals and I only make the level design and scripting.

So, what would you people like?
(I haven't decided yet if I'm even gonna do it)

You don't need to make a mappack. Make some single tests and release each of them on their own. If you know that you won't have too much time even before you start, then you shouldn't go for a big project, because you will only end up having nothing released and quitting the project.

I second this post by msleeper: post69447.html#p69447

I've seen many developers before who tried to force themselves to create a successor of their previous successful project and then they totally fail at this (in many different ways).

I think that you should take in consideration that if two people have to play a map the chance is twice as big that someone has to go. That is why I think that a coop level shouldn't have more then two tests which take a maximum of expected playtime of 30 minutes. You can make as much of those levels as you like but players can just load up a level and continue; in the worst case solving one puzzle again.

And seeing he number of released coop maps I think 6 seperate releases of 2 puzzles, maybe one per month will make peoplemore happy then 1 12 tests map in october ;)

I was thinking I would make a map pack, but make one map at a time. But together they would tell a story.
When I made the 12 Angry Tests, I kinda had the ending ready quite early, so I could do X maps in between. And then I came up with the name 12 Angry Tests and decided to release it when I had 12 puzzles.
So I could make the story heavy parts first. And then try and make it 12 puzzles. So If I decided to "throw in the towel" I could take how many maps I've made, slap on an ending and release a 6 Angry Tests map pack or what ever.

*Edit
yeah, kinda like lpfreaky90 said
I aim at 6 maps total, 2 puzzles / map and release them one by one. But together they tell a story.

Map pack will be awesome. Ignore sleepers advice, she is talking about people with eyes bigger then the amount of effort they are willing to put in.

Try to keep the same difficulty curve you did the first time. and....... co-op boss battle? possible?

I was going to say make one big map pack because then when you play it u get a big reward but i feel that release the map a month (about) keeps players excited for the next one

Yes, please. Your last map pack was such a nice experience. Looking forward to more!!!

Would love to see a co-op map pack!
It will give the coop transition and choosers I released yesterday a use as well.

Only problem is I don't see how you can 'unlock' the different maps and levels once one of the two partners leaves and wants to re-visit it again. I put in a question to steam support but they never answer SDK questions...
